PARENTING!! ~ Our greatest joy, our greatest challenge, our greatest opportunity, our greatest responsibility!

"I have no greater joy than this, to hear of my children

walking in the truth."

3 John 4

Oh, the truth of this Scripture! We care and provide for our children, pouring into their lives with the hope that they will embrace the heritage we are giving to them and choose to walk in Truth. Yet, the enemy of their souls is also lurking, waiting for opportunities to plow into their lives with his lies and schemes to accomplish his goal of "stealing, killing and destroying" all that Father God has planned for them.

The contrast will always exist: truth vs. lie; freedom vs. bondage; hope vs. despair; light vs. darkness: life vs. death. Father has provided truth, freedom, hope, light, and life in His Son, Jesus Christ. He has also provided the Holy Spirit to grant us wisdom and understanding that perhaps we ourselves have not yet known. He will teach us how to parent and will present opportunities for us to be equipped as we embrace this wondrous responsibility of passing not only a heritage to our children, but practical preparation for the realities of adult responsibility in their future. We cannot wait to do that when they turn 18.

One such opportunity is being provided for all of us on Saturday, January 21, 2012! A kind donor has underwritten the cost of bringing Bruce Johnson of JH Ranch to present the "Journey of Transition" and "How to Rate a Date and Choose and Mate." Therefore, the cost is only $15 for adults and $25 for couples. A huge thank you goes to this one who has a vision for families and a burden for the havoc being wreaked upon the homes and children of this generation.

It is our joy to present this opportunity for you. Our sincere prayer is that you will take advantage of equipping that can enhance and/change your relationship with your child and your spouse as you both gain understanding of how to approach the different stages of parenting. One must parent a five year old very differently than a 15 year old!

"A father will become successful through adversity and then

with his success he banishes from the lives of his children

the very thing that made him successful."

JH Ranch

The current cultural view is that the parents are the providers and the children the consumers! The view of the parents must be different if the view of the children is to be changed!

68% of college graduates are currently returning home looking for financial assistance.

31% of thirty year old men, and 47% of thirty year old women have finished school, left home, married and had a child, or have become financial independent.

You do the math! You are raising the parents of your grandchildren! Let's equip them to be responsible adults ~ responsible dads and moms. Come gain valuable insight into how to prepare your sons and daughters to walk in truth, to develop a strong work ethic with a heart to serve their families, and to honor Christ.

Journey of Transition
PLEASE NOTE: THERE WAS AN ERROR IN THE DATE IN LAST WEEK'S NEWSLETTER.  PLEASE NOTE THE CORRECT DATE IS JANUARY 21ST.

Westminster is providing an incredible opportunity for our parent body, faculty and staff!  Bruce Johnson of JH Ranch in California is coming to us again this year!  Bruce shares profoundly simple lessons providing the under girding for the journey every parent must make with their children ~ the transition from the "care taking" during the birth to 5 years to the "consulting" of the post 19 years and all the transitions in between.

Parents, part of the mission statement of WCA is "...to assist parents in educating their children..."   The cost for this opportunity has been partially underwritten by a generous donor, however, there will be a $15 per person charge to defray the remaining costs of bringing these practical strategies distilled with nuggets of biblical wisdom to you and your family.   This is such crucial information that means have been provided for our faculty and staff to attend in order for them to have a better understanding of the transitional stages of our students.

This is the final REQUIRED MEETING for all 2011-2012 new upper school parents (this means all seventh grade parents and any upper school parent new to WCA), and new employees!!

Click the link above for more information and/or to register today!  And don't forget to invite your friends and neighbors to this critical training event!

Opelousas Playground is Being Installed
Father God Has Done it Through You!

The Opelousas Elementary is ready to celebrate ~ God's faithfulness through His people! The new playground structure is fully set only awaiting the pouring of the rubber much and the railroad ties to secure it! The long waiting is over and our students are full of anticipation of their first opportunity to play on it!

This play set includes racing slides, three other slides, climbing chains, a mountain climber, a pole for sliding down, the student favorite - swinging bridge, stairs, several climbers, raised platforms for active imaginations, and seating for two to watch.

We will dedicate the structure to the glory of God and to the physical development of healthy bodies through active, wholesome, fun play.  When the day arrives all is in order, we will most certainly provide the students with extended recess time for full exploration.

A huge thank you to all of you who have participated to make this wonderful addition to our elementary program possible.
