VOLUME 3, ISSUE 17                                                        December 16, 2011

From Our Superintendent, Merida Brooks

"Behold, the virgin shall be with child and shall bear a son, and they shall call His name Immanuel, which translated means, 'God with us.' "

Matthew 1:23

Oh, the wonder of this truth ~ Immanuel, God with us! Before the foundation of the world, the Godhead agreed together that the Son would come and dwell on earth among us! The Son took off His robes in glory and put on a coat of flesh and was born as a helpless babe in order to become the perfect sacrifice. He was laid in a manger in Bethlehem because there was no room anywhere for the King and Creator of the world to be born! What a thought past comprehension!

The Father gave His only Son. The Son ~ Jesus gave up the majesty of Heaven and the worship of angels to come to a world that would neither recognize nor honor Him and ultimately would reject Him. He came to give His life, to become a "seed to go into the ground and die" that life eternal would become possible for all of mankind. (John 12:24) You see, when God gave us Christmas, it was Easter that was on His mind ~ another wondrous thought!

In the midst of this wonder, our hearts are humbled and grateful that the Westminster Family chooses to acknowledge and embrace this great truth of God. We do welcome and acknowledge the great gift of God in His Son ~ both the Babe in the manger and the perfect Sacrifice for our sin that has made a way for us to posses eternal life! Therefore, we join you in lavishing praise and thanksgiving upon our God for this joyous time of the year which allows us opportunity to stop and reflect on the great mystery of this miraculous birth in all its meaning in our lives!

Our prayer is that this Christmas season will be filled with childlike wonder at the ways and purposes of God in your life! Oh, how He loves you! Wishing you a very merry Christmas filled with the joy of His presence and surrounded by those you love. May the New Year be filled with the favor and purposes of God in your life.

Lafayette Campus Celebrates Christmas

The Lafayette Campus held two Christmas Chapels, one for Elementary and one for Preschool. All the teachers had an opportunity to share the meaning of the symbols of Christmas. The Elementary chapel was blessed to have former WCA employees singing and assisting Mrs. Davis on the guitar,  Hannah Arabie and Rebecca Beasley, respectively.  Preschool chapel was also blessed by some members of the Progressive Baptist Church worship team, all of who were WCA parents, along with  former WCA teacher Charlene Folse.

The Christmas program on the Lafayette Campus was presented by the first graders, with a little help from the sixth graders. The sixth grade students narrated the Christmas Story, the boys did a little skit and the girls presented "Mary Did You Know" in sign language. The first graders sang songs and told the Christmas Story from the perspective of the animals. After their performance at school they went to a nursing home to share the Christmas Story with the residents and pass out socks that the sixth graders had decorated.

Signs of Christmas cheer were also seen in Mrs. Palmer's K3 class as they decorated gingerbread cookies.

Calvary Campus Celebrates Christmas

The students at the Calvary campus gathered in the church sanctuary for a quiet reading of books followed by warm gingerbread and hot apple cider.  Mrs. Christine Myers, Mrs. Tracy Kelly and Mrs. Accardo each took the opportunity to share their favorite literature with the children.  The Christmas Story,  Little Golden Books; The Crippled Lamb by Max Lucado and The Tale of Three Trees, retold by Angela Elwell Hunt.  The meaning of the last two, which ere parables, was related to the children as they enjoyed listening for the truth written into the imaginary stories.  Jesus' parables will be part of our Bible class in the new year.

The preschool students on the Calvary campus enjoyed the Christmas Story in the dark as they were reminded to trust and obey God's Word, for it truly is a light unto our feet.

Opelousas Elementary Christmas Program

This year's Christmas Program featured speaking and singing by our first and second grade students on the Opelousas Campus. The Elementary Choir (consisting of 2nd and 3rd grade students) also sang for parents, grandparents and friends. What a wonderful way to celebrate the birth of Christ!  Enjoy portions of the presentation by watching the video below.
