VOLUME 3, ISSUE 14                                                        November 18, 2011

From Our Superintendent, Merida Brooks

We Are Thankful for...

...our Veterans

...our Grandparents

...our Westminster Families

...and most of all, Jesus!

Thank You, Father God, for the many blessings You bestow daily upon each of us. Thank You for the "heritage" represented by our Grandparents; the "valor" represented by our Veterans, the "faithfulness" represented by our Parents, and the Sacrifice made by Jesus Christ.

May we take the time during this Thanksgiving season to consider all that has been done in our lives and to pass the heritage of gratitude to our children.

I will open my mouth to speak things of old, which we have

heard and know, and our fathers have told us. We will not

hide them from our children, but will tell them to the generations to come the praises of the Lord, of His strength and His

wondrous works that He has done...that they will put

their confidence and hope in God and not forget His works.

We Are Thankful For...
Our Veterans!
Veterans' Day, 11/11/11, was celebrated by the elementary students on Westminster's Opelousas Campus at 9:00 a.m. in the Gym.  Highlights of the ceremony included a presentation of the colors by the WCA Cub Scout Troop; a singing of the National Anthem by Megan Bold, accompanied by Collin Arabie on the snares; the singing of the songs of four branches of the Armed Services; interviews of the Veterans with questions from children; recitations of the classes; and singing of patriotic songs by all in attendance.  A special moment was observed as a mother shared about her "Prayer Warrior" son who died in Iraq.  Another special surprise was the sixth graders' choice for their memorized presentation -- Ronald Reagan's speech at the Brandenburg Wall.  It was a delightful rendering by these young people who love that particular speech.  Closing remarks and prayer by Superintendent Merida Brooks ended the hour of sharing, expressing that it was "fitting" that we spend this time recognizing the great cost of those who are willing to define our nation and our freedom.

The Upper School's celebration included an unveiling of a local Veterans Memorial to be built.  Westminster donated $500 in pennies to kick off their "Every Penny Counts" campaign with an additional donation of $500 for a total of $1,000.  The students also heard  tearful words from Coach Tommy Badon's father as he shared what it means to be a veteran.

Calvary celebrated Veterans Day with Grandparents!  The children recited Scripture, shared songs and  some of the many recitations they learn in the classroom each day.

The Lafayette Campus also celebrated Veterans Day with walls covered in patriotic art, hearts filled with gratitude and faces full of smiles!

We Are Thankful For...
Football!
We have many opportunities to be thankful during the year, but at this time of the football season we are especially grateful that the football team is still playing. The first week of the playoffs last Friday night saw the Crusaders claim a 46-34 win over the visiting St. Mary's of Natchitoches Tigers, giving the team a shot at the Kentwood Kangaroos in the second round tonight. Against St. Mary, the offense continued to show its consistency, accumulating 507 total yards, led by the 205 yard rushing performance of Thomas Kemp. Going into the fourth quarter, WCA led 46-19. Although two quick scores by the Tigers narrowed the final outcome, the game was well in hand for most of the night.

Kentwood won it's opening round playoff game 40-6 over Basile. The Crusaders will travel tonight and will kickoff at 7 p.m. This marks the 8th consecutive appearance in the playoffs for WCA, and the 7th time the team has reached at least the second round. Kentwood has a long football tradition, including three trips to the state championship game in the past 20 years, so we need every Sader fan possible to make the trip and cheer the team on the victory.
