From Our Superintendent, Merida Brooks

Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up.

Do Hard Things Conference

What an incredible opportunity for our 7th through 12th grade students to attend this most amazing conference. There were 108 students who traveled by bus to Baton Rouge, with many more going with their parents!

Students stated it was one of the most relevant events they had ever attended - speaking to them in a language they could understand to the issues of their own hearts.

"What encouragement, challenge and perspective I would have missed out on if I had not attended. My heart is filled to overflowing with joy because of the boldness in which God's truth was shared with me."

Students were given the opportunity to accept Christ, but it was done in a "Do Hard Things" way! Students were asked to stand one at a time and proclaim loudly, "Jesus is Lord!" Over 25 WCA students made this bold move. Celebrate God's faithfulness in their lives and pray for their growth in their faith and in the knowledge of God's Word.

What was the Do Hard Things Conference?

"The complacency of fools destroys them." Proverbs 1:32

Several quotes from the book of the same name by Alex and Brett Harris will answer this question.

"Over time, refusing to reach higher, try harder, and risk more robs us of the glorious purpose and wonderful future God has created us for...Complacency is a blight that saps energy, dulls attitudes, and causes a drain on the brain. The first symptom is satisfaction with things as they are. The second is the rejection of things as they might be. 'Good enough' becomes today's watchword and tomorrow's standard."

This is a "rebelution" against the low expectations

                                   OF and FOR adolescents!

"The real danger for a youth's intent on "rebelution" is that these smarter-than-average kids often get praise for things that were not particularly difficult to achieve. If we focus on the props and encouragement of those who have low expectations for us, we become mediocre. It can be challenging to set our sights on excellence, particularly when we are hearing that we are already there. One of the greatest lessons we all must learn is to respond, 'That was nothing. Watch this!' Challenge yourself and others to call the normal things 'normal' and save that word 'excellent' for things that really are."

"When asked to address the question of pride in doing hard things, he offered a great perspective: 'I always get the greatest feeling after doing something hard. God has designed this intense emotional reaction to inspire us to repeat the things we've done right. It's a feeling we never get when we cheat or cut corners, only through true character. This kind of God-given gladness inspires others to do great thing as well.

                                 Three Pillars of "Rebelution"

- character

- competence

- collaboration

"Our vision for the 'Rebelution' is to see these three qualities coming together in a new generation - young people who are passionate about growing in Christ-likeness and sharing the Gospel (character), who care deeply about skill, strategy and creativity (competence), and who are committed to finding and working with a community of like-minded 'rebelutionaries' (collaboration) to bring hope and healing to a lost and hurting world."

Thank You, Father, for providing this most incredible opportunity. May we be wise stewards of all that You have granted to us in the lives of our students through this event.

On October 18, WCA hosted the Association of Christian Schools International (ACSI) District Meeting at our Lafayette Campus. Our own Bill Thompson, State Representative, gave the devotional, and then Regional Director, John Craig, gave informative presentations about what is new with ACSI and about TerraNova (the replacement for the Stanford Achievement Test). Later in the morning, the group participated in a Webinar from Paragon Micro. Also, featured was a District school, Northlake Christian in Covington, shared by the school's head, Dr. Joey Shorter.

Third Grade Bible Diorama Presentations
Third grade students orally presented nomadic Bible scenes; tents, wilderness, wells, and mountains to an audience of students and parents. By using shoeboxes, and other artistic items, they were able to creatively show how Abraham and his descendants lived as nomads.

Playful Prepositions

Students in Mrs. Trahan's 7th Grade Literature Class were given an assignment to create a song using a list of prepositions provided by Mrs. Trahan. This was a creative means by which students memorized prepositions and reinforced the recognition of prepositions that have been memorized in prior grades!

College Day

On Friday, October 14, College Day was held for juniors and seniors. Over 30 state and private colleges and universities as well as the Army and Air Force visited with WCA students. Students were exposed to many new programs and features on these college campuses.

Senior Luncheon

Time for tailgating!! "Footballer" Coach Tommy Badon handed out tickets to this event...yes, this is Coach Badon in the helmet pictured below!

This senior lunch was a Sports Tailgate Party held outside in the Crusader Complex parking lot. BBQ burgers, chicken wings, cookies and soda were part of the menu to celebrate this American tradition. What a huge hit with the 2012 Senior Class!

Crusader Football

The WCA football team moved one step closer to a district championship with a huge 34-13 win over the St. Edmund Blue Jays here at Crusader Field last Friday night. With the win, the Crusaders improved to 5-2 overall, and 4-0 in district with three games left in the season. Thomas Kemp rushed for 226 yards and two touchdowns to lead the Saders to the win. Andrew Smith, Jalen Williams, and Donyell Young each added a score to help the Crusader cause. The defense played well again, holding one of the area's top offenses to a single score in each half. Once again, WCA showed how a team working together as one can do great things.

This Friday night WCA travels to New Roads to play the Catholic-PC Hornets in a 7 p.m. contest.

Next week WCA plays Sacred Heart Ville Platte, October 28, 2011, 7:00pm, Crusader Stadium.  This is going to be a big game, so don't wait in line, buy your ticket now, only $7.00. Purchase your tickets from Rita Smith in the gym 7:30am-3:30pm.
