VOLUME 3, ISSUE 6                                                       September 23, 2011

From Our Superintendent, Merida Brooks

Teach us to number our days,

that we may gain a heart of wisdom.

Psalm 90:12

What an honor to live life with all of you! I bless each of you in the precious name of Jesus. My prayer is that He will continue to reveal Himself to you in that intimate and personal way that reveals the depth of His love and covenant commitment to you as you choose to walk in His ways for His glory.  May He bless the work of your hands and reveal His majesty to your children. (Psalm 90:16,17). Thank you for all of your kindnesses toward me and my family.

Happy Birthday, Mrs. Brooks!!!

bastrop fire
Bastrop Wildfire Mission Project

We ask you to please pray for the people of Bastrop, TX as they need your help. Their homes have been destroyed by wildfires caused by Tropical Storm Lee and the severe drought. Roughly 1500 homes have been destroyed so far and the fires are still burning. We have supplied a list of items that are needed. Anything you have to donate will be greatly appreciated as this community has nothing left. Mrs. Yvette Arzola will pick up items from all three campuses (Calvary, Lafayette and Opelousas) every Friday for the next two weeks. This mission will end on September 30, 2011, as Mrs. Arzola will travel to Bastrop, TX to deliver the items. Thank you in advance for your prayers and donations. For more information, please contact Yvette Arzola at 337-407-8400.

Items you may consider donating:  toiletry items, socks, shoes, t-shirts, clothing

Opelousas Preschool Chapel
The Full Armor of God

Opleousas Preschool Chapel Mrs. Bernard encouraged the preschool students on the Opelousas Campus to pray first each day in order to "put on the full armor of God". Our armor can only protect us if we put it on and we are prepared for the attack of the enemy. She also compared a football player's uniform with the Armor of God. A football player goes into the game prepared. The children learned that they have to fight battles against the enemy everyday. They learned how to be prepared by using God's Words and Promises to help fight their battles.

Lafayette Preschool Chapel

Enjoy the students' singing at this precious chapel time.  Mrs. Ogle talked to the students about the Ten Commandments and how Jesus took the Ten Commandments and turned them into two. The students learned that they should love God with all their heart, soul & mind and love their neighbor as themselves.
Maxwell Jones
Opelousas Student Presents a Challenge
Mrs. Sonbuchner's second grade student, Maxwell Jones, has been hard at work helping his mother, grandparents, and uncle and aunts with certain chores around the house. With the money he earned he brought it to Mrs. Sonbuchner and told her that he wanted to donate it toward the new elementary playground for the Opelousas Campus. Maxwell has encouraged his classmates to take the challenge as well. Will you join Maxwell? You can send in your tax deductible donations to the Development Office: WCA Playground Fund.

Middle School Mission Team
WCA Middle School Mission Team exists to honor God through acts of service for our school and community. We take seriously Christ's claim that "'I tell you the truth, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers of mine, you did for me.'" (Matthew 25:40). Any middle school student who loves the Lord Jesus and desires to serve their community and one another is welcome to join. These pictures are some snapshots of our clean-up on campus on Sept. 2, 2011. We got together and divided into teams, going around campus picking up trash and helping to care for our school and God's creation. Others in the group (not depicted) remained inside and performed the necessary function of counting pennies that the school is donating to the new WWII Memorial down the road from us.
