VOLUME 3, ISSUE 3                                                       September 9, 2011

From Our Superintendent, Merida Brooks

And the words of the LORD are flawless, like silver purified in a crucible, like gold refined seven times.  You, LORD, will keep the needy safe and will protect us forever from the wicked, who freely strut about when what is vile is honored by the human race.  Psalm 12:6-8

Do Hard Things Conference

Rebelution TourWe are excited about the Do Hard Things Tour, a one-day Christian Teen Conference that's coming to Baton Rouge! Westminster is underwriting the cost for all of our students in grade levels 7-12 to attend this Conference. WCA will even be providing buses to get us there!  The only cost to students will be the price of their lunch.

Visit their website www.therebelution.com/conference and let us know what you think. The Rebelution is defined as "a teenage rebellion against the low expectations of adolescence." Both parents and teens need to hear this message!

We would love for parents to register and attend with their teens, but if your teen needs a ride to Baton Rouge on October 15th for this Conference, please click here to register today!

elementary choir
Opelousas Elementary School Choir
Our second and third grade students began Elementary Choir this week!  The group is led by Mrs. Teri Cober, a school volunteer. Mrs. Cober is in need of an assistant (no singing ability required!) in order to run AV equipment while Mrs. Cober leads the singing. You may reach her at 407.2965 (home), 277.9289 (cell), or by email at cobers@bellsouth.net if you are able to assist!
wear red day
Lafayette Campus Participates in Wear Red Day!
UL Lafayette invited all of Lafayette to celebrate the positive impact the University has had on the development of Acadiana by wearing red on Sept. 2. Our students on the WCA Lafayette Campus joined in the celebration!
Opelousas 3rd Grade Show & Tell
There's nothing like wonderful Show and Tell opportunities to make lasting elementary school memories.  The third grade students in Mrs. Goudeau's class learned how to create Dippin' Dots!   The class was a little disappointed to learn that it takes six hours for the dots to freeze, however, they enjoyed a Dippin' Dots lunch treat the next school day.
For their next Show and Tell opportunity, Emmerson Lyons' father, Barrett, brought a donkey and her baby. The students from both Mrs. Goudeau's class and Mrs. Lamke's class enjoyed being able to run and play with the baby donkey.

Lafayette Chapel
Garbage or Gourmet

Mrs. Keller spoke to the 3rd and 4th grade students in a September 2011 chapel about the impact of their words upon others.  We can use our words to serve up a delicious gourmet meal of encouragement, kindness, and edification for "LIFE", or a putrid meal of garbage with unkind words, criticism, making fun, selfishness for "DEATH."

Students were challenged to listen to the words that they use and ask the following questions: Are your words building others up or tearing them down?  Are your words considerate of others or "having fun at someone else's expense?"  Remember, you will reap what you sow; therefore, choose your words wisely in order to be a source of blessing to others.

football against ville platteCrusader Football

Congratulations to the football team for their win against Ville Platte in a wet, but exciting game on September 2nd.

The Westminster Crusader football team dropped a tough 28-7 decision to the Port Barre Red Devils in a game played Thursday night. Tyler Louviere scored the only 'Sader touchdown of the night on a nine yard run in the second quarter. WCA played hard and gave a great effort, but in the end, Port Barre made the plays when it had to and came out with the win.

Next week, we are on the road against Loreauville on Friday night at 7:00 p.m.

Golf Scramble Volunteers Needed
Each year Westminster Christian Academy hosts a Golf Scramble to raise money to enhance school programs.  Committees are being formed now for this spring event.  If you are interested in serving as a volunteer on one of the Golf Scramble Committees, please contact Paige Dean in the Development Office at 948-4623.
