New Program Begins at ARISE
Forty 3rd Grade Scholars Enter the "Game" Level
A's & Aces began programming this month at ARISE Academy, a new charter school located in the Ninth Ward, replacing a failing RSD school.
The school's principal requested A's & Aces to provide First Serve programming for its "Gonzaga" and "Tulane" classes, the two sections of 3rd grade. Twice weekly classroom programming features life skills with literacy activities and QuickStart tennis on the schoolyard.

 A's & Aces - Dillard Partnership
The A's & Aces Summer Tennis & Reading Camp at Dillard was well reviewed by campers, parents and partners.
"We are very pleased that the University will continue to host our program through the school-year", said Executive Director, David Schumacher. "Dillard has provided more than its courts and classrooms; its faculty and staff have been personally involved in conducting literacy evaluations and planning for student service-learners to work with the program this fall."
Children benefit from their exposure to the college campus and its students and full-size tennis courts are now necessary for children who are eager to continue in the program but have out-grown QuickStart tennis.

| USTA Rates A's & Aces "First Serve"
Prior to the USTA's acquisition of First Serve, Inc. in January, there were 16 National Junior Tennis and Learning (NJTL) "First Serve" chapters delivering programming. In August 2010, the USTA named A's & Aces to this elite group. First Serve chapters are a subset of the USTA's 558 NJTL organizations that have earned high ratings based on their commitment to developing the character of young people through tennis and education as evidenced by the program's quality, number of participants, and graduation rates.
Chapters implement the First Serve Life Skills Curriculum™ and participants are eligible to enter the National Student-Athlete Competition, an annual, point-based contest determined by school report cards and USTA Jr. Team Tennis participation. The top 3 point-earners among First Serve Chapters in four different age and gender divisions earn college scholarships worth up to $5,000 per year.
