| What is Active FX? | |
Active FX is a fractional laser procedure performed in a single treatment with minimal patient downtime. During the procedure, a high-energy beam of laser light is used to smooth out lines, wrinkles and scars, remove brown spots and other irregularities, and tighten the skin. It also stimulates formation of new underlying collagen to continue improvement over time. With fractional laser treatment, only a fraction of the skin's surface is treated by the laser, leaving small "bridges" of untouched skin. This technique makes the healing process much faster and enables you to get back to normal activities sooner. |

How many treatments will I need?
The ActiveFX, which takes around 25 minutes, can reduce fine lines, wrinkles, skin laxity, and other effects of aging and sun damage in a single-treatment.
What will my downtime be?
There is minimal downtime of about 3-4 days. The second day after the procedure, the first post-operative day, the patient has a little bit of redness and swelling, which may get a bit more intense on the following day. There's often a dry brown layer of skin which represents the sun damaged skin that's preparing itself to shed. On the fourth day, the patient comes into the office for a final step to remove all the dead cells and skin. The residual redness usually disappears over the next day or so.
What is a treatment like?
A topical anesthetic is applied to the treatment area 30 minutes or longer prior to appointment time. The treatment feels like a bunch of little pin pricks and is done very quickly. There is little to no pain associated with the procedure - most patients say they feel warmth similar to a sunburn. You can drive yourself home after the procedure. With a gentle washing and moisturizing regime, your photodamaged skin will begin to flake off within 2 days. After about 4-7 days, your doctor will let you wear make-up. Pinkness should be gone in about a week.
Are there any possible side effects?
Side effects are rare. Immediately following treatment, the skin may appear flushed, brown pigmented spots may appear darker, and capillaries may be more visible. In rare instances, temporary swelling and/or blistering can occur.
What improvement will I see?
Patients have a high degree of satisfaction with their results. Expect to see a decrease in irregular pigmentation, including photodamage, wrinkles, fine lines, skin laxity, acne scarring and can also help to diminish pore size. In just one treatment, the skin will feel smoother and more supple.
