President's Newsletter

Greetings!

My apology for not communicating with you during the month of June. Assisting with site management, attending township meetings, visiting with Land Bank on foreclosed units and working on amending and restating dated condominium documents have kept me busy.   When your manager is overloaded, my goal is to lighten the burden and help with non- routine matters.

Managing in a Drought

The weather continues to be the story of 2012. Lawn services, tree installation, painting projects and even power washing have been stymied due to the lingering drought and excessive spells of heat. The first thing managers check each day is the weather forecast to evaluate what may have to be postponed or cancelled altogether.

One of the most popular topics that seems to get called in by homeowners this summer is grass. Either the irrigation system isn't working properly or they are concerned with how bad their lawns are looking (i.e. Brown).

A very good article on the MSU Extension web site explains just how turf grasses are effected by drought. Use this link to read more.

If you would like a special topic presented to your community, please e-mail Kay your interest at kay.bushey@cummingspm.com.

Kay's Blog
Developing Your Association Budget

All managed communities are highly encouraged to send Board representatives to one of the budget workshops. Bankruptcy regulations now require that the court received fee change notices 90 days prior to the fiscal year or change in fee structure. Since we have several owners in bankruptcy protections we don't want to jeopardize your ability to collect increased fees or assessment by failing to meeting the time requirements.

The topic of this month's Blog entry is budgeting. One of the most important, if not most important, tasks that a board takes on each year is developing a budget. Read this month's article to learn more.

We are excited to extend our services to these communities and look forward introducing our management skills in areas of the state we haven't worked before.

I hope the rest of your summer is filled with fun in the sun. Don't let the brown grass get you down, just think green ad eventually the rain will come. It won't be long now until we are complaining about the snow and slush. After all this is Michigan!

Sincerely,
