President's Newsletter

Greetings!

I look at the calendar and simply can't believe that we are nearly into the third week of May. This month has always been my favorite since I get to celebrate my birthday and because we can stop holding our breath about freak snow storms and damaging frost warnings. Bring on the flowers, pool openings and summer grilling!

Upcoming Seminars and Learning Opportunities

Our May legal seminars were well attended by Directors representing communities with non- completed construction and communities still grappling with foreclosure issues. In June, we hope to find you in attendance for Risk Management in Your Association.  This informative seminar will take place on Wednesday June 13 at 6:00pm in our Flint office.

Too often Directors are reluctant to take time from their busy schedules to "go back to school" but we try to keep the topics light, refreshments appealing and the time commitment to 1-2 hours.

If you would like a special topic presented to your community, please e-mail Kay your interest at kay.bushey@cummingspm.com.

Kay's Blog
Insurance- Is your Association Covered Properly?

Condominium owners sometimes assume that the association's master insurance policy is all the coverage they need. The master policy actually only covers the building, not your personal belongings, or any upgrades you've made to your unit. One of the biggest hurdles an association may have to leap is when a disaster strikes and the board must sort out who is responsible for what.

The topic of this month's Blog entry is insurance. After the recent flooding in the Genessee County area in May our office was thrown through a crash course on insurance issues. It was pretty timely as our next seminar deals directly with this issue. Click here for seminar details

Community Spotlight
Glen Devon

Our Featured Community for May is Glen Devon Condominium Association located in Fenton Township.

It's especially refreshing for me to see a community that we work with take a proactive approach to saving for future maintenance needs.

Glen Devon strives to meet two needs of it's residents; low monthly condo fees and proper reserve funding. The featured article from Board Secretary Al Monetta highlights the importance of proper reserve funding.

Effective Risk Management

Every day we deal with risk management, whether we know it or not. It might be something as small as a trip hazard in your sidewalk or as large as a sink hole in the parking lot. Inevitably these issues all work themselves back to your Association Insurance policy.

Take a moment to review your current policy after reading this article. You may want to schedule some time with your insurance agent to speak at an upcoming board meeting as well.

In June, Cummings will be hosting a seminar on risk management. This seminar would be a great forum to begin the conversation.
Risk Management in Your Condo Association

I can't emphasize enough how important you are for your community. Take a moment to reflect that 'Without You, Who?' Go out and enjoy the sunshine.

Sincerely,
