Letter From The President
Greetings!

January is always a month of resolutions, making them and inevitably not keeping them. By week three we are usually off our diets and back into our vices. Such is the ebb and flow of life.

We have been hard at work making a transition to a new on-line management program at our office as we have resolved to make the lives of our board members and property managers more efficient. Rest assured this is a resolution that will be kept.

This month's newsletter will focus on making the transition to 2011 a smooth one.
Preparations for the New Year

With the start of the New Year, Cummings is preparing the following for your community association:

  • 2010 year end financial statement
  • Preparation for the completion of the Federal tax statement
  • Insertion of the 2011 budgets into monthly financial reports

As Directors, you should plan to work with your managers to insert in these mailings a brief newsletter to co-owners reminding them about parking during snow removal activity. If parked behind garage doors or on the street, cars will need to be relocated to allow the plow blade sufficient room to maneuver.

Also insert a reminder that co-owners participate in providing safe footing while on the common elements by wearing appropriate footwear and by appling ice melting agents if conditions warrant.

Kay's Blog

The begining of the year is a great time to get your association's finances on the right track. My latest blog posting offers some insight into avoiding some of the more common pitfalls that plague most homeowners associations.

Please check out our blog entry "It Always Comes Down to Dollars and Sense."  Don't let delinquencies get away from you. You can link to the blog here or by going to our website www.cummingsmanagement.com and clicking on the Blogger icon on the right side.

Community Association Institute Annual Conference

The following invitation comes to us from the conference committee of the Community Association Institute  (CAI).  Please let your manager know of your interest so we can plan car pooling services.

Don't miss Community Associations Institute - Michigan Chapter's 2011 Annual Conference & Expo on March 11th. The event will be held in the Diamond Center at Rock Financial Showplace in Novi. This is your opportunity to attend many educational sessions and seminars. The exhibit hall will be full of vendors displaying their services and willing to answer your questions. It's a great opportunity to keep up-to-date with the latest issues and services that affect your community.

On top of all that, they will have coffee, continental breakfast, a three-course gourmet lunch, and cocktails and hors d'oeuvres. This year, the theme is "Academy Awards - Living in an Award Winning Community," which should add a fun atmosphere to this productive and informative event.

If you are an association board member or manager, you should be there! Sign up here or call toll free 877-588-5010. If you sign up before February 15th, you will be entered in a special prize drawing!

We hope you and your entire association have a great start to the New Year.

Sincerely,

Kay Cummings- Bushey
