The fishing is hot...

Bob McKinneys 27 and a half inch walleye

With the unusually warm winter and early spring, the May and early June fishing has been very hot!  Right from the opener, all species of fish were active and hungry.

Pictured at right is Bob McKinney (North Aurora, IL) with a 27 1/2 inch walleye.

Biggest walleye, so far...

Ryne Simeone's 31 1/2 inch walleye

With the early and warm spring, walleyes have not been found in their "usual" spring locations.  They are in transition from shorelines to the reefs and mid-lake humps.  Most are being caught jigging in 18 - 30 feet of water at the current time.

There have been a number of large walleyes caught.  The biggest so far this season is Ryne Simeone (Champaign, IL) with this 31 1/2 inch.

Biggest northern, so far...

Ryne Simeone's 41 inch northern

If the face in the picture looks familiar, it is because Ryne Simeone has caught, not only the biggest walleye of the season, but also the biggest northern!  Pictured is his 41 inch fish.

Northerns are very active and are being caught in large quantities.  They are still in the weeds.  The "hot" lure is any spinnerbait with white blades.
