The Washington County Workforce Profile is available from the State of WI Department of Workforce Development Office of Economic Advisors at
http://dwd.wisconsin.gov/oea/county_profiles/current/washington_profile.pdf
The profile includes information on the impact of the "Great Recession" on the State and Country. Additionally, I pulled some data from the report that I thought was interesting:
In 2010, Wal-Mart was the county's largest employer. In 2005, it wasn't even in the top 10.
In 2005, 5 of the county's 10 largest employers were manufacturing or printing firms. In 2010, they were only 2 of the top 10 largest employers.
Although the county lost 559 jobs in 2010, it gained 325 manufacturing jobs.
The average annual wage paid in Washington County in 2010 was $37,758, approximately 94% of the state's average. This ranks the county 11th in the State.
Per capita personal income in 2009 exceeded the state and nation. The county ranks 4th highest in the state. This may be due to county residents commuting to other counties for higher paying jobs.
50% of the county's employed residents commute outside of the county for employment, compared to the State average of 28%.
The rate of poverty in the county is second lowest in the state.
From 2000-2010, Washington County has the fastest growing population in the Milwaukee 7-county region. Although proximity to Milwaukee and available land are factors for this growth, cost of housing was cited as a major factor.
In-migration (residents moving into the county) accounted for more than half of the county's total population growth. Births exceed deaths by 6,100. This is higher than the State average, but lower than the national average.
