Hartford Union High School has requested our input in planning the future of our local educational system.
*************************************************************
This fall marks the fourth year anniversary of our strategic planning process. We have much to celebrate as a result of our strategic plan. At this important juncture, we have an important choice to make. We could ride the momentum we've created or embark on creating a roadmap toward a future we desire for our students and community.
External forces, such as technology, demographics, economy, competition, and accountability are driving the transformation of public education. We must create a strategic roadmap to navigate through future decisions and prepare each student to maximize his or her own potential.
The HUHS Board of Education has decided to engage in a planning process which will create a partnership across the groups of adults (parents, community, board, staff, and administration) and align roles of each group. The process will allow the school district to work with the community to imagine our future, design a plan for our future, and align resources and energies toward creating that future. The district belongs to the community and we believe it's appropriate for the community to identify what it wants for their students and schools.
To begin our Creating Our Future planning process, we are asking parents, staff, and community members to become engaged in each of the following activities:
1. Complete the survey for all parents, community members, and staff. If you have not been provided a link to the survey through your email account, send an email with the subject "SURVEY" to survey@huhs.org to receive the link. The survey is available through Wednesday, November 23.
2. Visit the HUHS Creating Our Future blog at http://www2.huhs.org/future/ to check out links to websites, videos, and books to learn more about the 21st century learning. Become engaged in the dialogue.
3. Participate in a community input session to share additional thoughts about the strategic roadmap and our future. Each session runs from 7:00-8:30 PM and will be held at the following locations: November 29 - Hartford Public Library, December 5 - Richfield Village Hall, and December 6 - Saylesville School.
4. Review the current strategic plan and a summary of activities accomplished to date located on our website at http://www.huhs.org/page.cfm?p=375.
The timeline for our process follows:
· November 2011: Parent/community/staff survey; Student survey; Design team formed
· December 2011: Community input sessions; Design team meets
· January/February 2011: Design team meets with Board prior to course registration and budget
The strong relationships the HUHS Districts enjoys with its community is evidence that community members recognize the importance of a meaningful education. In fact, without the community actively engaged, we would most certainly fall short of our potential. With the community support, the HUHS District will continue to lead the way, serving as a model for other communities.
As we move forward through this planning process, there are many key issues facing public education that we'll have to address together. We look forward to embarking on this journey with you to create our future at HUHS.
