Notice from Hartford Electric...
Patrice,
Here is a statement from Hartford Electric regarding the recent power outage:
On August 3rd, Hartford Electric experienced a power outage that affected all of the Dodge Industrial Park customers and approximately 2,000 residential and commercial customers. The outage started at approximately 8:30 p.m. and lasted about 1 hour and 15 min. With the assistance of Hartford Electric staff, ATC (American Transmission Company) was able to identify the location and cause of the failure, which was due to a faulty surge arrester on ATC's 138,000 volt transmission line. A surge arrester is a protective device installed on the transmission line to limit surge voltages caused by lightning or equipment failures. ATC was able to isolate their transmission line and restore power to Hartford Electric.
This is the second failure ATC has had in recent weeks. On July 18th, ATC had an arrester fail that resulted in a two second interruption of service to the Dodge Industrial Park customers and approximately 1,000 residential and commercial customers in Hartford.
I have been in contact with ATC representatives and have expressed my concern regarding the recent arrester failures on their system. As a result, they will be replacing all of the arresters in their substation over the next week, with the first replacements taking place this morning.
ATC is aware of our concerns and the inconvenience caused to our residential, commercial and industrial customers. We will continue to work with ATC to correct this problem in hopes of preventing future failures.
