Volunteers Needed For Focus On Connections . . .
The BIT (Business and Information Technology Department) will once again be hosting the Focus on Connections: A Career Development Event, at Hartford Union High School on
Friday,May 20, 2011, from 7:30 am to 2:30 pm.
This is an interactive, hands-on financial event for junior students designed to demonstrate the importance of sound money management skills. WE NEED YOUR HELP!
Focus on Connections is a partnership between Hartford Union High School and the business community, providing an opportunity for students to connect with community business representatives in an authentic situation. Students are given the opportunity to test their budgeting skills using actual prices for products and services in a safe environment. The event also provides insight into career selection and how that career will impact a student's financial future.
All HUHS juniors are required to participate in this event as a culminating activity for their Focus on Careers Class. Based on previous research, students will have selected a career and be provided a household status. These factors will determine the income and expenses each student will incur in a simulated monthly budget. As students visit "stations" set up in the Fieldhouse, they will be making spending decisions based on a "price sheet" developed by area businesses. Volunteers from the community and businesses will be on hand to assist students and collect payments.
This is a wonderful learning opportunity for students that requires many hours of preparation by staff and community. We would welcome your assistance in volunteering at one of our stations.Shifts for volunteers are morning (7:30-11:15 am) or afternoon (11:15 am-2:45 pm) or you may choose to help the entire day.
Please consider assisting in this hands-on activity-any help would be appreciated. If you have questions or would like further information, please contact janet.peto@huhs.org or call 262-670-3297.
