Greater Houston Chapter - CAI Weekly Email Newsletter Greetings! Independence Day, commonly known as the Fourth of July, is the annual celebration of nationhood. It commemorates the passage of the Declaration of Independence by the Continental Congress on July 4, 1776. John Hancock, the president of the Second Continental Congress, was the first to sign the Declaration. With its ornate capitals, Hancock's sprawling signature is prominent on the document. Since then, when people are asked for their "John Hancock," they are being asked to sign their names. Join the City of Houston in celebrating America's birthday on Sunday, July 4, 2010 with an explosive concert by country music stars Pat Green, Little Big Town and Cowboy Mouth. Enjoy the largest land-based fireworks show in the nation, presented by Shell, and a lively outdoor festival featuring fun activities for the entire family. Freedom Over Texas with Fireworks Presented by Shell will take place in the heart of downtown at Eleanor Tinsley Park, 500 Allen Parkway, 77002 from 4 p.m. - 10 p.m. For more information, go to www.freedomovertexas.org and to volunteer for the celebration, please visit http://www.houstontx.gov/july4/volunteer.html. The CAI Office will be closed Monday, July 5th, in observance of the holiday. We look forward to hearing abour the celebrations observed in your neighborhoods. Wishing you and yours a safe and happy holiday,
