Ability to produce something new through imaginative skill, whether it's new solutions to a problem, a new method or device, or a new artistic object or form. The term generally refers to a richness of ideas and originality of thinking. Psychological studies of highly creative people have shown that many have a strong interest in apparent disorder, contradiction, and imbalance, which seem to be perceived as challenges. Such individuals may possess an exceptionally deep, broad, and flexible awareness of themselves. Studies also show that intelligence has little correlation with creativity; thus, a highly intelligent person may not be very creative.

Are you creative? Do you 'think out of the box?' When you do that's where the competitive edge happens. Working to the creative approach and 'never say no' indicates you do 'think out of the box.' In the creative mode and helping a customer you'll do your best to accommodate them. Say 'yes' to those unique requests. Be that go-to person because you find the way. That's not to say promise the impossible. The person who coined the phrase "Where there's a will there's a way" wasn't far from wrong.
Introduce a new concept to your customer. This will make you stand out and remember budget isn't always a budget. A client looking for service and seeking to do a project will gladly pay slightly more for options that will work favorably for them.
Generally, promote yourself in a unique way depending on what service or product you provide to gain a prospects attention. Promote yourself in a way it not only draws attention to yourself but works well for your client.

Good exercises to stimulate creativity is to consider trying to do the following:
Change your routine by using both sides of your brain. Try using the opposite hand you favor to do tasks. For example, try using your mouse with the opposite hand on the other side of your computer.
U se the 'mind mapping' technique. This is a different approach to brainstorming. It is designed to bring up new ideas from a central word or concept.
Try the opposites approach. Turn a given situation around. Take a negative and turn it into a positive. There's a story about a woman who owned a toy store near a park. People with dogs would gather near her front window and blocked the entrance. What did she do? She put a sign up that said "Free Dog Biscuits." Her sales shot up.
Think about asking an authority. If you are having trouble coming up with a solution, think about how a famous personality would handle the given situation. It could be an athlete, a singer or even an industry expert.
Ask yourself a 'what if' question. Ask yourself what you'd do if you won the lottery. You could do anything from going on your dream long-term vacation to supporting that non-profit group you are so dedicated to. This exercise will give anyone's imagination a boost. |
