Prince Agri Products wins Edie Award
The Illinois Chamber and Illinois Development Council give "Edies" to honor those who imagine, design, invest, build and bring jobs, growth and prosperity to Illinois communities. The Illinois Chamber and IDC believe it's important to showcase recent accomplishments - especially when they translated into more jobs, tax base and economic vitality in Illinois. The Edie Awards are given in categories based on geography and development type. Prince Agri Products, Inc. in Quincy won an Edie Award for its manufacturing developments. "These companies and the local economic development teams are in the trenches across the state, creating jobs and investing in our communities," said Ed Sitar, chairman of the Illinois Development Council. "These successful projects are too often overlooked and we wanted to take a moment and reinforce the notion that economic development like this is central to keeping our state vibrant and healthy." Project Description
Prince Agri Products broke ground on September 4, 2008 on the construction of a new 165,000-square-foot manufacturing, warehousing, and laboratory facility located in the South Quincy Development District.

The expansion will ultimately retain 59 jobs and create 41 new jobs in the Quincy area. Prince Agri Products selected the Quincy site after a year long planning and evaluation process, including comparison with several other competitive sites in the Midwest including St. Louis, Kansas City, Louisville, Memphis and the Quad Cities. Critical factors in choosing Quincy included:
- the region's quality workforce
- an attractive economic incentive package from city, county, and state governments
- strategic access to river, rail, and highway transportation
- the company's long and successful history with the community
"We've had a positive experience with the area's labor force and are confident in our ability to expand because of that workforce," said Darryl Mayton, VP of Manufacturing, Prince Agri Products, Inc. "We are making a large investment in the people and community and look forward to growing with Quincy."
Prince Agri Products, Inc. is a leading nutrition solutions provider for animal feed manufacturers, large integrated livestock producers, and animal nutrition distributors/blenders around the world. The company manages domestic and international operations, production facilities, and a state-of-the-art analytical laboratory from its headquarters in Quincy. GREDF Involvement GREDF facilitated the planning and development of the South Quincy Development District for well over a decade. GREDF serves as the common denominator in SQDD development, bringing city, county and state officials together with company representatives to make projects happen. The Great River Economic Development Foundation has been involved with numerous projects in the South Quincy Development District including most recently acting as the face of the Mid-America Intermodal Authority Port District.
