Pediatric Physical Therapy
Author: Erin Dorsey, DPT
One common misconception about physical therapy is that we simply treat the old and infirm. However, physical therapy can begin at birth as a useful treatment to promote development, function and participation in age-appropriate activities including school, athletics and activities of daily living. Pediatric physical therapy encompasses treatments to promote the child's physical development to promote health and function. Some modes of treatment include patient & family education, strengthening, balance & gait training, flexibility, coordination and motor control, endurance training and positional therapy.
Pediatric physical therapy can be provided in a number of settings including hospitals, outpatient clinics, inpatient rehab, school and preschool, community settings and even at home. Moore is considered an outpatient physical therapy clinic and has provided treatment for infants, toddlers and adolescents for a variety of diagnoses.

Testimonial Corner
"For the total joint replacement of my right knee in November 2011, I had a great surgeon followed by great physical therapy. Moore Physical Therapy in Darien started working with me before my surgery to make sure I understood what to expect and how to achieve the results I wanted. And the results are much better and much faster than I ever expected them to be. My team of therapists at Moore, led by Noah Citsay, is professional, responsive and highly results-oriented. They push me when I need it and can sense when it's time to ease off, all so I can meet the goals we've set. I have been so happy with their integrated approach to physical rehab that I am now working with their in-house trainer to get the rest of my body back in shape so it can keep up with my new knee!"

In Case You Missed It...
On our Facebook and Twitter pages, we send out daily tips for healthy living. Here are some of the tips sent out the past two weeks:
- Monday Movement Tip: Stay Active - Regular physical activity can reduce the risk of heart disease
- Tuesday Training Tip: Look for exercise opportunities throughout your day. Take the stairs, walk or ride your bike, or do some crunches on the couch. Every little bit counts.
- Wednesday Wellness Tip: For every meal, fill half your plate with vegetables to ensure you get the servings you need.
- Thursday Therapy Tip: Direct Access - CT and NY allow patients to see a PT without a referral, and studies show you can recover faster by getting treated sooner.
- Friday Fitness Tip: Keep Muscles Limber - If you are under 40, hold stretch for 30 seconds. Over 40? Hold for 60 seconds.
