Recipe: Bottom's Up! Mudslide Smoothie
This recipe is so darn yummy, it should be illegal. Since it's not, we definitely had to feature it in this month's issue! Read the recipe below, then watch Brandi whip it up in the Vita Mix.
Ingredients- 1 oz espresso
- 1 oz coffee liqueur
- 1 oz Irish cream liqueur
- 1 oz vodka
- 2 cups ice
- 1/2 cup half & half
- Monin Dark Chocolate sauce (to taste)

Part of our recent website revamp was to incorporate a ton of resources into a new section, cryptically called Learn. If you've had a chance to look at the new site, you'll have noticed that it's one of the main sections on the site -- next to Shop, Cafe and Service. Did you know that we have a comprehensive article on the essentials in coffee basics -- covering everything from where and how coffee is grown, to how its processed and roasted, to some of the chemical components that give it the distinctive flavor we so adore? We also have the Coffee Flavor Wheel used by professional tasters as a reference point when tasting and comparing coffees. This is a great tool to use if you want to invite some friends over for a tasting party. Another excellent resource is the Coffee 101 section, which includes the aforementioned articles and several more on coffee basics as well as How-To Guides designed to get you started in the right direction. We'll be expanding the information here as time goes on, and you know we love suggestions! Drop us a line with any questions or ideas you might have.

Ask the Experts: Which Gear is Best Suited for Hiking? If you're serious about coffee, then brewing up a batch while on the open trail is something you have either considered before or are pulling off on the regular. If you're the former and need some guidance on gear, check out our crew's recommendations:
- Bialetti Moka Express Stovetop - You'll need a steady heat source to brew up this coffee, but it's simple and strong.
- Aeropress - One of the most popular on-the-go (and stay-at-home) coffee preps out there!
- Handpresso - Ground coffee, E.S.E. pod or both, this little bike pump is ideal for true espresso extraction.
- Bodum Brazil - Polycarbonate - Hiking with a few of your favorite people? Try this shatter-proof 8-cup coffee press.

Saeco Poemia
Blending the tried-and-true internal functionality of the popular Saeco Aroma and Via Venezia models with the sleek design of their recent superautomatic espresso machines, Saeco's new single boiler espresso machine performs as good as it looks. Now, seriously, how often do we get to say that in life?! We love its ease of use and sleek design, but the portafilter's material and the range of motion on the steam wand aren't ideal. For the price, however, it's certainly worth your consideration.

Nespresso Gran Maestria
You know how we feel about Nespresso's capsule espresso machines: For ease of use, convenience, cleanliness and consistency, it's hard to beat. So if trying to pull the 'God Shot' isn't a high priority for you, and easily making a solid cup of java is, the Gran Maestria should be within your sphere of exploration. Also, who wouldn't dig its integrated demitasse cup warmer and upgraded Aero 4 milk frother?! And for those more traditionally oriented, you can pick up its counterpart, the Maestria, which features a steam wand instead of the automatic frother.
