As you may have inferred from our revamped newsletter design, SCG has both a brand new logo and a brand new website! Launched in the wee hours of this morning, our new website features some great new functionality, including product comparison, filtering, integrated resources and more. We've also segmented the site into different sections -- Shop, Learn, Cafe and Service -- in order to tailor information depending on your needs. Finally, the new My Account section will provide improved account management and access for you in the future. If you have ordered from us in the past and created an account during that process, we transferred only your name, email address and address information to the new system for security reasons. When you place your next order, you'll need to go through the 'Forgot your Password?' process on the new website, which will send an email with a reset link to the email address associated with your account. If you have any issues with this for any reason, the crew can also help you set a temporary password over the phone that you can then use to login and change the password to something more secure. We'd love for you to check it out and let us know what you think! We will be continuing to develop and improve the site over the coming months, so if there's functionality you'd love to see, please feel free to share.

Ask the Experts: What is a Thermoblock?
Espresso machines use a variety of different internal heating technologies, and a popular choice is the thermoblock or thermocoil. A thermoblock/thermocoil is different from a standard boiler because it pulls water from your machine's reservoir, then heats it as it transits through the machine. A benefit of this technology is that it can provide for fairly continuous steam or brew and if your espresso machine doesn't have an auto-fill feature, you don't have to worry about burning out the boiler. A downside is that, depending on how the thermoblock/thermocoil is manufactured, it can lack the temperature stability that is preferred when pulling espresso. Gail provides more detail on this, as well as shows examples of these internals, in this video. |
Technivorm CDGT
Featuring the popular cylindrical design of their CD models, the CDGT now features mid-brew interrupt functionality, without having to mess around with a little lever. Otherwise, it still brews up the same great cup in this classic brewer. Also available in the KBGT-741 design.

Mahlkonig Pro M - Espresso
Because of the popularity of their All Around model released last year, Mahlkonig developed a model to cater to those utterly committed to espresso-only extractions. Featuring the same small footprint and clean, modern design as its counterpart, the Pro M Espresso has a few upgrades: A programmable shot timing interface and a removable bean hopper. It pairs well with any espresso machine and is a great choice for cafes in search of a smaller grinder devoted to decaf beans.
