Recipe: Espresso Vodka
Why drop coin on a name brand coffee liqueur when you can easily whip it up yourself! Watch Brandi in action and, once you're finished, check out one of Kaylie's recipes that uses this lovely little tincture.

  • 8 oz espresso
  • 1 lb. of powdered sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 18 oz vodka
  1. Pull your shots of espresso and add them to a medium-sized saucepan.
  2. Slowly pour in powdered sugar, stirring continuously to combine.
  3. Once sugar is completely dissolved, add vanilla extract.
  4. Allow to cool and then add 18 oz of vodka.
  5. Let the solution chill 36 - 48 hours.
  6. You may want to strain it after its settled to take out any sugar residue.
  7. Enjoy!

Ask the Experts
Q. I love my superautomatic espresso machine, but would like to be able to easily clean the grinder. Can I use Grindz or another type of product to do this?

A. We really, really, really wish we could say yes to this. Promise! But we've seen far too many damaged brew groups to recommend this in good conscience.

While Grindz is an excellent product for standalone grinders, these wheat-based pellets can expand when they come into contact with water. If you use them in your superauto, it will grind the pellets and dose them down into the brew group, tamp them and then quickly add hot water in order to provide you an 'extraction.' At this point, you run the risk of the 'puck' expanding and breaking the housing on the brew group.

So what's the best way to clean your superauto's grinder? Our best recommendation is to take it to a trusted espresso machine repair technician.

If you want more detail, you can watch Gail break it down for us in this video.

Atomic Cafe Coffee
Atomic Cafe Coffee
$12.00 - $13.95
With a wide array of drip and espresso blends, as well as a few single origins, Atomic Cafe surely offers something for everyone! Crew favorites include the Black Velvet and Rocketeer blends -- and we even had a few fans of their Espresso Intensi dark roast (and that's saying something for this crew!).
This lil 5 cupper is the perfect size if you've got just a couple of coffee drinkers in the house. Available in red, white and black, it also features a small footprint, sleek casing and easy-to-use interface. A great choice if you want a no-muss, no fuss coffee maker that also looks great on the kitchen counter.
One thing we dig about DeLonghi's simple single boiler espresso machines is just that -- they're an actual single boiler. So you get great shot temp, and the upgraded case style on this new series is a great improvement as well. Available in red and black, these are excellent, attractive starter machines.
