SCG @ NW Coffee Festival 6/18 - 6/19

If you're in the Seattle area during Father's Day weekend, you should definitely come visit us at the 1st annual NW Coffee Festival at the Seattle Center's Fisher Pavilion! We'll be featuring a 'Pull Your Own Shot' booth where you can play with the stainless steel Via Venezia, the brand new Crossland Coffee CC1, Rocket Giotto Evoluzione and La Marzocco GS/3 to see how they compare. We'll also have sale items, maintenance-based educational info and some really great jokes.

The event itself will also feature several of Seattle's best cafes, barista demonstrations, a local roaster pour over bar, coffee-friendly goodies, an antique espresso machine display (courtesy of La Marzocco) and more! Additional info and tickets available at their site.

Ask the Experts
Q. Dear Gail & Kat, what's it like to know everything there is to know about coffee?

A. We wish we knew the answer to this one! One of the things we love most about coffee is that it's always open to interpretation -- and experimentation!

A few months ago, we held a test of freezer stored coffee beans because we were often asked by customers if this was a suitable preservation method. Our original test yielded very poor results, the coffee tasted freezer burned and pulled very poorly.

When we published that video, however, we had several customers write in with their recommendations around how they have successfully stored their beans in the freezer. So, being the open-minded ladies that we are, we decided to give 'em a new test!

Watch as we try three different techniques...and eat a little crow.

The entry-level brainchild of the GS/3's engineer, this sophisticated single boiler features three programmable options, integrated PID control, front access water reservoir and powerful, thermoblock-enhanced steam function. The Rancilio Silvia better watch out!
You'd be hard pressed to find better burrs on a home grinder than this petite offering from Mahlkonig. Their first foray into the home grinder market, the Pro M is equally excellent as an espresso and a drip grinder, maintaining consistency on either end of the spectrum.
