 | Here's some news. . . . |
|
Here's some good news for those of you who have or intend to have an ERIE homeowner policy added to their portfolio. The deep auto/home cross policy discount on homeowner pricing has gone from 20% to 22%. We heavily market ERIE's best form, the Ultracover. All of ERIE's homeowner products are rich with extra features not found in our competitors' products.
Here's some good prospective news from Harrisburg. The PA legislature is working on changing the deep pocket liability concept known as Joint and Several Liability to one with a little more common sense. Today you can be found 5% liable for an accident yet have a judgment set against you for 100% if the courts determine that your pockets are deep enough to pay it. The proposed change would make you responsible only for the portion of liability for which you are deemed responsible unless your responsibility is greater than 50%.
Floods and windstorms continue to batter our country, especially the heartland. Homeowner policies cover windstorm. For those with proper limits, the insurance carriers will pay enough to make them whole. Homeowner policies, including yours, never cover damage due to floods and surface water. Even if your home is not in a flood zone, you can have flooding. In fact one-third of all floods do damage in areas that had not been identified as flood zones. ANYONE can buy flood insurance. Those of us outside the flood zones can get it at about 1/4th the cost of those in the flood plains. You can't wait to see if the water is breaching the banks. Flood policies must be bought 30 days in advance of the inception date.
Hopefully the skies will clear and we can enjoy the rural character of our community. Ask a friend or neighbor over for a cookout. Build relationships where you can. Life is short. |
