Dear Readers, As I write to you today, I'm munching on some delicious Brach's pumpkin candies, which I bought in preparation for the Halloween holiday. It's such a fall-like thing to do. Granted, I have not had a trick or treater in seven years, but a girl can never be too rich, or have too much Halloween candy on hand. Oh, how I love the autumn season. The sights, the tastes, the smells of fall are unmistakable and intoxicating: the smoky scent of fireplace wood waiting patiently for that first official fire of the season; the tantalizing aroma of baked apples bringing with it the hope of a homemade apple pie (prepared by someone other than yours truly); even the fragrance of lit candles in the homes of good friends can bring back some romantic memories of autumns past. And of course, let us not forget our excitement at the prospect of wearing new fall clothes. The sensuous feel of a soft cozy sweater on one of those chilly October mornings? Hard to beat. In keeping with the concept of cozy, we have a completely new style out there this year called the cocoon. Maybe it is a bona fide old style from years gone by and I'm just too young to recognize it. Ooh, that felt good to say! Or perhaps I simply chose to ignore it the first time around and subsequently forgot it completely. Either way, here's the scoop on the cocoon look: If you ask me, it could also be called the barrel look and it's a little intimidating to those of us who are not particularly slender. It's cute, yes, but it's extremely oversized and the exact opposite of our desired hourglass body shape. With sloping narrow shoulders, a fuller wider middle and a narrow bottom, you can find cocoon coats, jackets and sweaters out there in the stores right now. And it will be quite interesting to see if women will embrace them.
But hey! If you are as tall and slender as the model in this photo, good for you! You will no doubt look adorable in the cocoon. Me? Not a chance, no thanks, I'll pass. Wishing you all the good things about fall, Nancy Photos courtesy of More magazine and Harper's Bazaar magazine |
