All those who wish they had exercised more and eaten less over the holidays, please raise your hands. Ah ha. Just as I thought. Welcome to the club. This newsletter is dedicated to you. Yes, of course we plan to lose some weight, but what are we supposed to do in the meantime?
In a word . . . Spanx.
Shapewear is the answer when liquid diets are just too much to bear. Please forgive the pun, but I for one, have too much to bare at the moment and dieting has never been my forte.
So, let's talk about at least LOOKING slim and trim while we shed those unwanted pounds, shall we?
Naturally, we need to start with a good bra. I have nothing against shopping at Kohl's, but when it comes to breast support, I strongly recommend investing in a higher end product. It is no fun spending seventy or eighty dollars on an everyday item, especially one that will never see the light of day! But it's worth it. A righteous bra will make a HUGE difference in the way your clothes fit and in your overall appearance.
You have often heard me talk about the Soma cami bra, right? It is so pretty and so practical. Well, Soma now has a vanishing back bra (see photo) that I am dying to try. Please let me know if any of you are currently wearing one and what, if anything, it's doing for you. In turn, I will keep you all posted on my experience once I buy it and try it. And if it really and truly gets rid of my back-fat, I will send up flares.

Now for the big guns . . .
Spanx is the term we use when we talk about underwear that slims, smoothes and supports our bodies. Actually, it can be any brand; or like the Soma panties shown in the photo, it can simply be an item made of microfiber. For example, I prefer microfiber boy-short panties because they do a great job of eliminating (at least to the naked eye and from a considerable distance) what I lovingly refer to as my tummy bump. And a number of my female clients who have just one or two trouble spots prefer microfiber underwear to so-called shapewear. Here's the rub, however. If you have more than just a few pounds to lose, or if you want to smooth the entire body silhouette, you need to consider a product like Spanx. They have the all problem areas covered (literally) head to toe.
Did you know that men can also benefit from wearing shapewear? A male friend recently told me about the Spanx T-shirts he's been wearing for years. Because he is on his feet all day every day, he sorely needs some major back support. He does not look overweight, so I was a bit surprised to hear that he was such a big fan of Spanx for men. Hello. That's why he does not look overweight, Silly.
Live and learn.
Last but certainly not least, I often need to remind myself that good posture is the most essential ingredient in the recipe for a tall and slender appearance.
It costs nothing and no special exercise equipment is required, but that doesn't mean it's easy to maintain.
It's not.
Especially when you feel more like hiding than sleeking.
But it is so very important. Not just for our appearance, but for our health as well.
So, dare I ask . . . how's your posture holding up today?
Mine's perfect. Thanks for asking.
Humbly yours,
Nancy
