New Year's Greetings!
One of the best things about my job is that I get the chance to actually experience a myriad of new styles, fads and fashions every year. Some stand the test of time, and others? Well, as Cole Porter would say, it was great fun, but it was just one of those things. For example, this outfit is so darn cute and so much fun I just had to show it to you . . .

Although adorable, this look would not be for everyone. That's why in the real world, where classics are the way to go for so many of us, I try to focus on the basics. The items discussed below are not show stoppers by any means, but they are important in their own subtle way. And they all have bonafide staying power . . .
- Brooks Brothers No-Iron Shirts. Yet again in 2011, a crisp white Brooks Brothers shirt is in the winner's circle. Yes, these shirts are more expensive than some of the other no-iron brands. However, they continue to be the best of the best for quality, wearability and value. www.brooksbrothers.com
- Soma Cami Bra. So pretty, so practical, so supportive. These bras are moderately priced and they add a touch of class to any lingerie collection. And some of the client lingerie collections I've seen are begging for something pretty. Something, anything! www.soma.com
- Donna Karan 'The Nudes' Sheer Pantyhose. Thank you, Princess Kate, for bringing to light the fact that modern pantyhose can be beautiful. These particular hose are exactly right for a polished professional look. I wear them for speaking engagements and my audiences think I have lovely bare legs. Really? I find that utterly and completely astonishing. Thank you, Donna. www.nordstrom.com
- Patagonia socks. Have you ever spent time and money replacing cotton socks every five minutes because the heels and toes wear out so blasted fast? I have, and I'm sick of it! My wise younger brother suggested I invest in a higher quality brand, so that's exactly what I did. I wear athletic shoes and socks for exercise just about everyday, therefore, it made sense to invest in better quality footwear. What a HUGE difference, not only in durability, but in comfort as well. I finally woke up. I hope you will join me. www.patagonia.com
- Aquatalia Boots. Going on my fifth season with these good looking troopers, they are still warm, waterproof and beautiful. I simply cannot say enough good things about these boots. I loved 'em when I bought 'em and boy, have they loved me back! Nordstrom's in Oak Brook and the Von Maur store in Yorktown carry them and if you google the Aquatalia brand name, you are sure to find additional retail outlets for them as well.
And before I sign off, I have just one more favorite thing I would like to tell you about. This one is a unique website for anyone interested in the world of fashion.
It's a blog written and created by two former Vogue editors. One has a very sophisticated classic personal style, the other is much more trendy and of the moment. They talk about the NYC art scene, food and cooking, what's new and interesting in home decor and design, and of course, clothing and accessories. The site itself has a very understated and sophisticated look which makes for pleasurable perusing.
And speaking of pleasures, please know what a pleasure and privilege it is to write this newsletter for you. Reflecting upon my many blessings this year, you are right there at the top of my list. Thank you. Nancy

Last spring, we enthusiastically reported that wide-leg pants are IN (still true) and skinny jeans are OUT (also true). That said, however, many women continue to wear them (including celebs), some just love them, and retailers are selling tons of them this season.
Go figure.
So, if you are a skinny style lover, please allow me to suggest the best approach to wearability:
A longer top is a MUST with this look!
Check out the photos below to see a good, better, and best length top to wear with slim cut pant styles.
As for the skinny bottom? Your body shape and size should be your guide. If you are wider in the hip and thigh area and smaller on top, think twice. If you are not sure if this style is right for you? Here's a way to decide: try them on at home and take photos of yourself . . . one from the rear, one from the side and one from the front. Trust me. This will tell the tale.
