Hi Soul Flow Yogis,
Pulling from eighth grade latin and spanish and most recently from the Tao of Pooh (a pretty sweet little book that I would highly recommend) cor = heart in latin, corazon = heart in spanish, and cor is the root of courage.
Through our practice, we find our edge - a raw place sometimes where we are closed in fear yet allow ourselves to experience it. This is Courage. Which isn't becoming fearless, but listening to our (cor) heart and our (core) gut and having the courage to move forward and witness it all in order to work through. As this happens our courage grows and our fear lessons. A nice circle every time we get on our mat.
When we have less fear, we are open to differences, change, possibilities. And when we meet and accept our own fear, it allows us to have compassion and understanding, not only for ourselves but for everyone around us. As we recognize humility in ourselves it becomes easier to meet and accept others for where they are in their own process.
As our fear sheds, we are able to move towards a more open, curious and genuine life embracing what is and what it truly means to have heart/courage and ultimately growth as humans and as a world.

Soul Flow's Community Garden!
 Mark your Calendars!
Saturday, April 16th 11:30am
Jerry Allen will be on site at the studio to help assemble and plant the summer garden. Let us know if you're interested in helping. (The Fall garden will be planted in August) If you have something you want us to plant, email us or bring the seeds/plants. Our mouths are already watering for sun ripened tomatoe sandwiches, spicy peppers and cucs off the vine! Once the harvest starts to come in, Soul Flow students are welcome to the bounty! Just pull a weed as you pick a tomatoe! |
Ask 'Flo'
What does the word Namaste Mean?
It's a super way of saying hello or goodbye in some countries.

However my favorite definition is:
I honor the place in you
in which the entire universe dwells.
I honor the place in you which is of love,
of truth, of light and of peace.
When you are in that place in you and
I am in that place in me,
we are one.

New! Alignment Class

In this 45 minute class we will choose a handful of poses weekly, and deconstruct them. Focusing on traditional alignment principles , this class aims to give students the insight to carry each pose into their practice safely and with an increased sense of awareness. |

Pose of the Month
Agnistambhasana
(Fire Log Pose)
Focus: Hips!
Step by Step
Sit on one edge of a thickly-folded blanket, knees bent, feet on the floor. Lightly shrug your shoulders up, strongly roll the heads of your upper arm bones back, and press the bottom tips of your shoulder blades into your back.
Slide your left foot under your right leg to the outside of your right hip, and lay the outer leg on the floor. Then, stack your right leg on top of the left. Be sure the right ankle is outside the left knee (so the sole is perpendicular to the floor).
If you have more flexibility in the hips, you can slide your left shin forward directly below the right to increase the challenge; otherwise, keep the left heel beside the right hip. If you're tight in the hips, you may find that bringing the ankle to the outer knee is difficult or uncomfortable. In this case, simply sit with your shins crossed in Sukhasana (Easy Pose).
Press through your heels and spread your toes. Keeping your front torso long, exhale and fold forward from your groins. Be sure not to round forward from your belly: Keep the space between your pubis and navel long. Lay your hands on the floor in front of your shins.

As you inhale, notice how your torso rises slightly; when it does, lengthen from your pubis to your sternum. Then on the next exhalation, fold deeper.

Hold 1 minute or more. Inhale the torso upright and uncross your legs to come out of the pose. Repeat for the same length of time with the left leg on top.
