Greetings!
Flowers appear on the earth; the season of singing has come, the cooing of doves is heard in our land. Song Of Solomon 2:12
Music is fascinating. Although there are only three primary elements - melody, harmony and rhythm - they can be combined in countless ways to create new songs and compositions. And music has long been known to have a deep affect on us. In ancient times, different types of music were believed to have positive or negative effects. Music could make you happy, irritable, or even sad. You probably have your favorite musicians that you listen to. Most of the music we choose is designed to change or accentuate our mood. Some folks like to get agitated through their music while others want to be serene.
How does music have such a profound impact on us? The three elements of music correlate precisely with our three persons. The melody speaks principally to our spiritual person. That's why David played the harp for Saul, to soothe his troubled spirit (1 Sam. 16). We also see the prophet Elisha calling for a harpist, to minister to his spirit so he could prophesy (2 Kgs. 3).
Our inner person (mind, will and emotions) enjoys the richness of harmony. The interplay of notes and chords resonates with our feelings. We notice discord, tension, suspense, symmetry, progression, simplicity and complexity. Everything within us gets involved when we appreciate an amazing composition.
Last but not least is the rhythm. It affects our outer person. Just try to be still when the song has a great beat! And when you add all three elements together, the resulting music is able to lift you up, to refresh your soul.
Do you need to be strengthened and encouraged? Choose your music wisely.

Youth & Other Miscellaneous Stuff
What's happening with
our teenagers?
School is back and our fall youth schedule is off and running. Twice a week, you will want to be present and accounted for: Sunday mornings at 9:30 and Wednesday evenings at 5:30. There are some wild things planned for the fall to which you will want to bring your friends. Did I mention that we are going to Hawaii in the summer of 2013 for missions trip? You will want to get plugged in now because that will take some serious prep time to get ready. See Steve & the youth team for more details.

Mandarin Chinese Classes Begin Sunday
Are your kids interested in learning to speak Chinese? Our Chinese ministry will be teaching our children ages four and above the basics of learning Chinese. Classes begin Sunday, Sept 9th, and continue for 12 weeks. Pre-elementary students will go from 1-2 pm and elementary students will go from 1-2:30 pm. Adults are welcomed in the class.
This fall, we will teach Chinese pinyin to all our students including kids and adults. They will be able to read Chinese characters independently once they are equipped with the pinyin skill. For more information, contact Madeleine Lee by clicking here. Registration forms are available in the Gallery at TBC or on the website here. |

California Missions Offering 2012
During the month of September, TBC will participate in the state-wide emphasis on what Southern Baptists are doing across the state to share Jesus with the 30+ million Californians who do not yet know that God loves them. We are also a part of a state-wide challenge that has gone out to 1000 California Southern Baptist Churches to all give $1000 to the California Missions Offering. Our goal this month is to raise $2000, just in case one of the 1000 doesn't participate. Listen each week for updates and get ready for our week of prayer beginning September 16. |

Word of Encouragement "You have heard that it was said, 'Love your neighbor and hate your enemy'? But I tell you, love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you, that you may be children of your Father in heaven. He causes his sun to rise on the evil and the good, and sends rain on the righteous and the unrighteous. If you love those who love you, what reward will you get? Are not even the tax collectors doing that? And if you greet only your own people, what are you doing more than others? Do not even pagans do that? Be perfect, therefore, as your heavenly Father is perfect."

Wisdom
The Becoming a Contagious Christian course is designed to help everyday Christians - like you and me - to confidently and effectively spread their faith to people they know. The emphasis is on natural approaches that work over time to bring family members, friends, coworkers, and neighbors to the point of trusting Christ.
