Greetings!
The games of the XXX Olympiad are upon us and most of us are getting an overdose of events from London each day. It seems as though just when we could not imagine someone running faster, jumping higher or getting stronger, they do. And while we watch in amazement every four years, we fully expect them to do so.
It is a great reminder of the growth that must take place within all of us who claim the name of Jesus. However, the writer of Ecclesiastes reminds us that sometimes the race is not to the swift or the battle to the strong, nor does food come to the wise or wealth to the brilliant or favor to the leaned; but time and chance happen to them all. In this life, all is not fair and sometimes the one who works the hardest doesn't win.
But the writer of Hebrews says that this doesn't make any difference and that we should throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles, and let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us. Let us fix our eyes on Jesus, the author and perfecter of our faith, who for the joy set before him endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God. He goes on to say that we should consider him who endured such opposition from sinful men, so that you will not grow weary and lose heart.
Your marching orders for today are to not lose heart. Stand firm in what you believe, even when all else around you appears to be crumbling. Business deals will fail, people will surely disappoint, and circumstances of life will not always go our way, but we are called to persevere with purpose. The Apostle Paul said that I do not run like a man running aimlessly; I do not fight like a man beating the air. No, I beat my body and make it my slave so that after I have preached to others, I myself will not be disqualified for the prize.
Run your race today. Run it by the rules. And no matter what, keep your eyes firmly fixed on Jesus.

What's happening with our youth?
Our youth leave on Thursday for their trip to Disneyland. They will participate in a mission project on Friday, play with Mickey & Minnie all day on Saturday, and attend church with Megan Prescott on Sunday at Ecclesia: The Church in Hollywood, located right on Hollywood Boulevard and the walk of fame with all the stars. Pray for them as they are in Southern California this weekend.

Family Camp at Mt Hermon
Mt. Hermon is a beautiful setting where you can meet God while stretching your soul in his beautiful creation. The people and programs are ready to be God's blessing to you.
Every person I've spoken with who has attended Family Camp at Mt. Hermon has had a wonderful time with God and others. Each detail is a blessing - the location, speakers, music, children's activities, and the pancake breakfast outdoors on the mountain ridge! That doesn't even mention the Redwood Canopy Ropes Course, archery, swimming pool, or the ice cream shop.
You'll enjoy camp whether you're single, married, have children still at home or not.
When: Labor Day Weekend, August 31 to September 3
Where: Mt. Hermon Camp, near Santa Cruz
Cost: Depends on housing you select from four different options. Overall cost is very reasonable for the room, great food, and wonderful activities available to you, especially when compared to a weekend road trip.
Scholarship: available by completing the form online (called "camperships")
For more info or to register, click here. Each person or family registers on its own and not as a group
Finally, please let Pastor Brice know if you have questions and that you've registered so I can be looking for you on Labor Day weekend.

Word of Encouragement
"In your relationships with one another, have the same mindset as Christ Jesus:
Who, being in very nature God,did not consider equality with God something to be used to his own advantage; rather, he made himself nothing by taking the very nature of a servant, being made in human likeness. And being found in appearance as a man,he humbled himself by becoming obedient to death - even death on a cross!"
Philippians 2:5-8
