Greetings!

Avery Willis, the author of MasterLife and former Vice-President of the International Mission Board, once said the world is a waffle, not a pancake. Pouring syrup on a pancake is not rocket science. Very little skilled is involved or required. You simply tip the container in the general direction of the pancake and let gravity take care of the rest. However, putting syrup on a waffle is quite a different story. You must pay close attention to every little square. You can learn just how obsessive-compulsive a person is just by watching then pour syrup on a waffle. Miss one little square and that little square goes without syrup. A bite of a little square without syrup will remind you that something is missing. Avery said pouring syrup on a waffle and not filling all the holes is much like the followers of Christ not yet reaching the whole world with the fact that God loves them and that Jesus died for them.

While the Bible Belt of the United States might be better described as a pancake. Marin County is certainly a waffle. Receptivity to the Good News of Jesus Christ is defined locally and individually. One size does not fit all. Now, those of you reading this are most definitely receptive to at least hearing the Gospel or you would not be reading. It doesn't necessarily mean you believe, at least not yet. You have determined that no harm will come to you in hearing that Jesus died on a cross, was buried and after three days in the grave, rose victoriously back to life. That is what we call Good News and it is meant for everyone. And it is Good News for all, even for those who will not yet acknowledge it to be so.

For those of us who do believe, it is our responsibility to share this Good News in culturally and relationally appropriate ways. Live life in such a way that you will be asked about the difference in your life. Always be prepared to give an answer to everyone who asks you to give the reason for the hope that you have. But do this with gentleness and respect, keeping a clear conscience, so that those who speak maliciously against your good behavior in Christ may be ashamed of their slander (I Peter 3:15-16).

Make sure every square on your waffle has a little syrup.

Experiencing God Update
eg
As we have come to know that God is always at work around us, EG groups will gather again on or about Jan 15 for a time of fellowship and planning for the EG testimony service that we will share together on Jan 22. During the next two Sundays, everyone will be asked to complete an Experiencing God Ministry Survey to explore the variety of existing or new ministry options at TBC.

Some of you were not able to get into an EG group in the fall or finish with your group and have asked about new groups starting up. You will be able to join new EG groups on the same ministry survey.

5th Sunday = Friendship Sunday
Our first Friendship Sunday of 2012 is January 29. The following is a reprint from the December Tidings to let you know about this special Sunday.

A new feature that we will implement this coming year is Friendship Sunday. These special days will be on the 5th Sundays of the year. They will be Jan 29, Apr 29, Jul 29, and Sep 30. On each of these days, you are encouraged to bring your friends and neighbors with whom you have been sharing the gospel. Our worship services will focus on evangelism and the good news of Jesus Christ. We are calling these days Friendship Sundays in order for you to remember that a focused presentation of the gospel will be presented on that day. The Scriptures read will focus on our personal relationship to Christ along with all of the music. It is our prayer that you will mark these dates on your calendar and encourage those that God is laying on your heart to be in attendance with you on these days.

LMCO Update
For our Lottie Moon Christmas Offering, as of today, we are a little over halfway to our goal of $20,000. As you hopefully know by now, 100% this offering goes directly to the various mission fields where our International Mission Board missionary families serve. It is not too late to contribute to this offering that supports them in every way. Please continue to lift our missionaries in prayer for the good work they do and for how the Lord wants you to support them.

Several of our missionaries sent videos highlighting their work and we have been able to view these on select Wednesday nights and Sunday mornings. We will view all of them on Jan 29 and have an opportunity to learn more about their ministry to better pray for them.
Be One In A Million
horn
God is calling out a million people to pray for 100 million people living in the Horn of Africa. Will you be one in a million? TBC has been asked to take a group to London on April 8-14 to prayerwalk with one of our missionary partners working among people of the Horn. Be praying as you determine if you need to join this experience. Pastor Glenn will be leading the team. Click on the logo above to learn more about this month of prayer.
The Shadow of God
So God created man in his own image... Genesis 1:27

We were made in the image of God. What in the world does that mean? Man has debated this question ever since the phrase was written. It's quite significant that the word "image" comes from an old root word that means "shadow". In other words, if God were to create a shadow of Himself, that would be us.

When I step out into the sunshine and observe my own shadow, I can see every major part of my body. I can see my head, arms, torso, legs, hands and feet. But that's all. I don't see the color of my eyes, the wedding band on my left hand, the clothes I've chosen, or the brand of shoes I'm wearing. My shadow doesn't have all my personal attributes. It just reveals the parts of my body.

Since you and I are the shadow of God, that means we can find the same "parts" in us that we would find in God. Through the progressive revelation of the Bible, we have learned that God is a Trinity. He is three persons: Father, Son, and Spirit. So it should come as no surprise that we are also three persons in one. We have an inner person, an outer person, and a spiritual person. Therefore, the more we understand who God is, the better we comprehend who we are as people.

Many are searching, trying to understand who they are and how they function. Who am I? Why am I this way? The answers to these age-old quandaries are found in our identity as shadows of God. We're not gods ourselves, but we are patterned after the Creator. That makes you and me extremely valuable. Enjoy your identity.
