The Tiburon Tidings eNewsletter

Greetings!

The theme of the 2011 Lottie Moon Christmas Offering is His heart, His hands, His voice. With the national goal set at $175 million, our TBC goal is $20,000. We will be receiving this offering all through the month of December. This week we began the week of prayer for international missions. If you did not receive a copy of the insert on Sunday, click here to follow it online each day from the IMB homepage. We have much invested in the lives of dear friends who have gone out from TBC in response to the call of God to reach the whole world.

Remember that this Christmas offering makes up nearly half of the IMB's total budget that supports all of our IMB missionaries worldwide. They are able to focus on sharing the good news of Jesus on the field and when they come home focus on sharing their stories from the field. Our regular offerings and this Christmas offering provides for their salary, housing, transportation, health care, retirement and a variety of other areas of support. However, when the offering falls short, many times they fail to receive all of the resources they need to do their work.

Thanks for your willingness to give, but more than that, thanks for your willingness to pray for our missionary friends on a regular basis. If you would like to know more about Lottie Moon, click here.

Light Looked Down
kids
Did you miss this scene last Sunday night? To say you missed a blessing would be an understatement. However, Christmas is only beginning and you have the opportunity to join us on Sunday night, Dec 11, for a performance of Light Looked Down.  It will feature our older children's choir, drama team, and adult choir with orchestral accompaniment, all directed by our minister of music, Beth Singleton. Join us at 4 pm or at 6 pm for this retelling of the old story of the birth of Christ. There will be a reception following the 6 pm performance. This is a favorite Marin Christmas event each year. Invite your friends and neighbors and arrive early for a good seat.
Ugly Sweaters and other such Youth Stuff
ugly On Friday, Dec 16 at 7 pm, our youth will gather for a long winter's night that will include an ugly sweater contest, white elephant gift exchange, and a whole night of craziness that will turn into a lock-in that won't end until 8 am on Saturday morning. Make plans to attend and have the Christmas time of your life. Bring a friend and join us.

There will be a 45 minute parent meeting at 7 pm when you drop off your kids.

See Steve for more details and dig out that dreadful sweater that your dear old aunt gave you last year.

Thanksgiving Love Offering for Staff
Your staff would like to say thank you for your love and generosity to us during this holiday season. It is a marvelous privilege to serve you. It is our prayer that you be blessed this season while we remember together the ultimate gift that God has given to us in His Son, Jesus.
Experiencing God Update
eg
We are drawing to the end of our corporate EG experience. But as Richard Blackaby says in the final video, this is really the beginning. We are going to pause to move through the Christmas holidays, but want to share what to expect in January.

We will have an EG survey that will seek to determine what God has said to you regarding your involvement in His work that goes on all around us. We will do that for a couple of Sundays beginning January 8th. On Sunday, Jan 15, we will encourage each EG group to gather again to have a time of fellowship and reflection over your fall experience. You don't have to meet exactly at that time, but could schedule a good time for your group sometime during that weekend for dinner or coffee & dessert. Then on Sunday, Jan 22, we will ask all EG groups to gather in the sanctuary at 6 pm for a time of sharing from each group. Each group will have only 3-4 minutes, so plan what you want to share and who you want to represent your group.

Some groups are considering staying together as new growth groups. Be praying what God may be saying to you and we want to listen carefully as God speaks to us as a church.
5th Sunday = Friendship Sunday
A new feature that we will implement this coming year is Friendship Sunday. These special days will be on the 5th Sundays of the year. They will be Jan 29, Apr 29, Jul 29, and Sep 30. On each of these days, you are encouraged to bring your friends and neighbors with whom you have been sharing the gospel. Our worship services will focus on evangelism and the good news of Jesus Christ. We are calling these days Friendship Sundays in order for you to remember that a focused presentation of the gospel will be presented on that day. The Scriptures read will focus on our personal relationship to Christ along with all of the music. It is our prayer that you will mark these dates on your calendar and encourage those that God is laying on your heart to be in attendance with you on these days.
See the Connection
For the LORD gives wisdom, and from his mouth come knowledge and understanding. Proverbs 2:6

I'm driving down the highway, traveling the appropriate, safe speed. Others are zooming by me at much higher speeds. I could accelerate and get to my destination more quickly. So why do I maintain my slower pace? Because I care about their safety and mine. Our well-being is more important to me than the extra minute I would gain through speeding. Wisdom allows me to make the connection between clear thinking and a good decision.

I choose to give God 10% of my income. Sure, I could buy a lot of nice things with that money. Why don't I use it for myself, like most others in the world? The tithe is a visible symbol of my allegiance to the King. I pay Him tribute with my weekly gifts. I don't give out of obligation or cold obedience to rules. God's wisdom permits me to connect the dots, to have a good reason behind my actions.

This ability to link judicious actions with sound reasoning comes from God. It's as if God has a spotlight. Without Him, we would be in darkness. But because of His grace, that light shines on our pathway, showing us the correct steps to take. He informs us, by His Spirit and His Word, how to think transparently. We're enabled to put aside selfish thoughts and recognize the truth. But that's just the start. The Lord also gives us understanding. He helps us connect this correct thinking to sensible decisions.

Seek wisdom for it is priceless. That alone is capable of transforming your life into a channel of blessing.

2012 Budget
Our budget for the coming year was approved by a vote of 94-2. You have confirmed a budget of $717,005 and our commitments to date total $633,902 and continue to grow. It is not too late to add your commitment to this amount. You can give your commitment card to Pastor Glenn. This is the highest commitment total in the history of our church. We all believe that God is doing something incredible in our midst  in spite of a down economy. May we continue to follow God faithfully in the coming year. Remember, healthy giving is the sign of faithful people
