| Greetings! | |
Welcome to February as the first month of 2011 is now history. This coming weekend includes Super Bowl Sunday. This single game has become one of the most important days of the year for avid sports fans worldwide and non-sports fans alike with many treating it as a holiday. Now, before we go any farther, I know that some of you could care less and are thinking, "Why is it getting top billing in The Tidings." It is just another game and this year will come and go and next year we will find ourselves listening to hyperbole as commentators attempt to take the next "big game" to new heights, but we know they will never be able to hype it enough. We will hear similar words and descriptions again and again and again. Sometimes the church squares off in opposition to the ways of this world and often we should because we are not of this world. However, we are still in this world and our struggle to invite folks to join us on our journey from this world to the next is what we are about.
This Sunday, TBC will not have evening service and it's directly related to the Super Bowl. The one thing we know for sure is that by the end of the day, either the Packers or the Steelers will raise the Vince Lombardi trophy and take their place alongside past annual champions of the NFL. We are encouraging you to host a Super Bowl Party with friends that suit your level of interest. For those of you who are fans, you will want to invite other fans so that you can focus on the game. For those of you who are not so interested in the game, invite friends who are likewise interested. Oh, the game may be on, but there will be more opportunity for wonderful snacks and good conversation. Whichever camp you fall into, make sure to tell your guests about your church; that is the people, not the building.
- Tell them that we canceled our regular services on this day to spend special time with others we care about.
- Tell them that we serve a God who cares deeply about this big game because it includes people and people are His great love.
- Tell them that TBC is a group of people who share a bond that binds our hearts together in ways that we will not fully understand in this lifetime. They should fail to understand this, so do your best to explain it.
- Tell them they are invited to come and check us out with no strings attached.
By the way, if you are interested in reading the back story about the ad that will not air during the Super Bowl click here (trust me, it's not Go Daddy or Budweiser). If you would like to see it and judge the controversy for yourself, click here.

While his art will be up through June, it will only be visible when classes are not in session. Click here to visit Rob's website or the link above for more details about the opening. Let's Go to the Hop!
| Hey daddy-o, all the cool cats are gearing up for our 2nd annual Sock Hop. This year we're adding games, so bring your favorite and teach the group a new way to have fun. We will again be at the Marinwood Community Center on Friday, Feb 18th, at 7 pm. The price of admission is to bring a friend and your favorite snack to share and get ready for a great evening of fun. This is truly an event for all ages. Last year we had preschoolers on the dance floor and everyone else from youth to senior adults. You will not want to miss this. There was a poodle skirt sighting last year. See ya!

The 2011 Rice Concert Tour
| Linda and Willis are back on the road, this time in California going from prison to prison sharing the good news of Jesus and some incredible music with inmates across the state. Please pray for this ministry daily as they continue to see men come to faith as they listen to power of Christ through testimony and music. We also look forward to their home concert on Sunday, March 6th. This concert will be a benefit fundraiser for the Kim Foreman Bible Institute in Rwanda. |

Remember the Heart of the Bible
| The 2011 TBC men's retreat is scheduled for March 25-26 at Camp Cazadero. The featured speaker will be our very own, Dr. Tom Cowley, who will help us look at God's love letter to His children. The cost of the weekend retreat will be $75 and will include all meals. The plan is to leave TBC at 5 pm on Friday and everyone will be home before 8 pm on Saturday. In addition to your basic necessities, make sure to bring your sleeping bag, pillow and of course, your earplugs and Bible. This will be a great opportunity to invite a friend for which you have been praying, as well as, a great opportunity to fellowship with a bunch of guys that continue on the journey to becoming the men we are called to be. For more details, see Dan McLennon or Eric Kwok. You may go ahead and pay your registration by making your check out for $75 and on the memo line writing men's retreat registration and placing it in the regular offering. If you have been on this retreat in the past, invite another TBC guy who has never attended to join you for this powerful weekend. See you at Cazadero! |

Five Master Patterns
| | One of the special gifts I received for Christmas this year was a note from a mutual friend that one of our long-time IMB fellow staff members had a new website that included an optional daily devotion that comes through email. I went online to learn about the Five Master Patterns and have been receiving the devotional each day since. What a blessing these have been to my life and I want to recommend them to you. To check it out, simply click on the link above. I encourage you to do two things. First, scroll down the right hand side to Five Master Patterns and . . . . and click on the first item, Powerpoint Overview. This will give you a glimpse into the overall direction of the site and the devotions. Then, go back up to Email Subscription and enter your email and subscribe. Read these for at least a week and if you are not completely satisfied that they are worthwhile, you can simply unsubscribe. I hope this will prove to be an important touch by God each day. My friend, Joel Sutton, has been writing for Open Windows since 1998, so his experience as a devotion writer comes through clearly. enjoy, Pastor Glenn |

| Word of Encouragement | "And so it was with me, brothers and sisters. When I came to you, I did not come with eloquence or human wisdom as I proclaimed to you the testimony about God. For I resolved to know nothing while I was with you except Jesus Christ and him crucified. I came to you in weakness with great fear and trembling. My message and my preaching were not with wise and persuasive words, but with a demonstration of the Spirit's power, so that your faith might not rest on human wisdom, but on God's power." I Corinthians 2:1-5
