The Greatest Gift of All

December has become somewhat of a blur to many people. We rush through Thanksgiving to experience Black Friday which is now followed by Cyber Monday. Say what? Where did that come from? Our calendars are filled with year end parties and festivities that are truly intended to be joyous occasions, but so many fall short in the joy category. We prepare for out of town guests or pack our bags to be those out of town guests somewhere else. We try to catch up on the latest movies that arrive at Christmas time or settle in to watch the traditional classics that include White Christmas, It's a Wonderful Life or A Christmas Story. We rush around trying to buy that perfect gift always feeling we have to outdo what we did last year. We are so worn out by the time Christmas Day arrives that we are too tired to care, much less celebrate the greatest gift of all.

God set in motion centuries ago a plan to overwhelm our hearts. Sin had entered a perfect world and disrupted everything; something had to be done. Nothing short of a miracle would measure up. And that is exactly what God did in the incarnation; he gave us a miracle. God gave himself to us. Jesus is our special gift. The miracle of new life comes with the understanding that this gift is ours and nothing in the world could take its place. God desires to repeat this miracle over and over again in the hearts of men and women and boys and girls.

This is how much God loved the world: He gave his Son, his one and only Son. And this is why: so that no one need be destroyed; by believing in him, anyone can have a whole and lasting life. (John 3:16 from The Message)

It is our prayer that during this holiday season, you will experience the greatest gift of all. If you have never opened your gift, we invite you to do it for the very first time. If you have received this gift in the past and treated it like a necktie you've never worn, we encourage you to get it down out of the closet or from the garage or wherever it is you have put it and experience it anew once again. God cared enough to give you his very best.

Christmas Eve Services
Christmas Eve is always a special worship time in the life of TBC. This year will even be better as we include a special service designed for families with younger children at 5:30 pm followed by our traditional candlelight service at 7:00 pm. We look forward to experiencing this holiday time together.
asante Asante Children's Choir
We will have an extraordinary opportunity to experience a very special choir from Rwanda in Central Africa on Wednesday evening, Jan 5th. Many are aware of this ministry through the stories we have heard from Don Comfort and Craig Singleton's travels to Rwanda. In addition to the concert, we will have opportunity to host the 24 children and 8 adults as they come through the Bay Area during their US tour. You will be hearing more details in the coming weeks about how we can support this wonderful ministry.
Your Stewardship Commitment
Many of you responded to last months request for your commitment to our 2011 budget. Your commitment for 2011 now stands at $555,458 and represents 96 of our families. Some of you choose to not make a commitment by card, but continue to faithfully give and that is perfectly acceptable. For some of you new to the TBC family, it is never too late to let us know of your plans to support your church financially.

Your stewardship committee wants to thank you for your ongoing generous commitment to the work of God's kingdom both here at home and around the world. It is our prayer that as we continue to navigate difficult economic times together, we will remain faithful to the calling that God has placed on us all. May God continue to bless you as we bring closure to 2010 and move into 2011.

Word of Encouragement
For to us a child is born, to us a son is given, and the government will be on his shoulders. And he will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace. Of the increase of his government and peace there will be no end. He will reign on David's throne and over his kingdom, establishing and upholding it with justice and righteousness from that time on and forever. The zeal of the Lord Almighty will accomplish this.
Isaiah 9:6-7
