Greetings!

Just as in all other aspects of business, sometimes things are quiet and sometimes things are "happening."  Well, things are bubbling up in the world of on-site clinics, so here's another issue.  Our Web site is also updated frequently (sometimes daily) so between newsletters feel free to visit it if you want to catch up.   www.onsiteclinics.org

Watson Wyatt Study Provides Surprising Business Financial Effects of Wellness and On-Site Programs
In its 2009/2010 North American Staying at Work Report:  The Health & Productivity Advantage, Watson Wyatt had some key findings about employers' health and productivity programs.  Those with the most effective H&P programs experience superior human capital and financial perfomance in all of the following areas: revenue/employee; shareholder return; lower medical trends and fewer days of absenteeism.

When talking about on-site programs, we frequently refer to reductions in overall benefit costs, or lower costs than peer corporations.  However, this study points to the actual impact on overall corporate financial well-being in other ways.  A summary of the report can be seen on the Watson Wyatt  Web site.
CHS Launches Optic - the Latest Addition to its On-Health Technology Suite

In a press release dated 12/1/09, CHS announced that it has already installed Optic in eight states and twelve health centers.  Optic is described by staff at CHS as "rais(ing) the standard for onsite patient care ranging from customized, evidence-based medicine templates and e-prescriptions to automatic health maintenance reminders, laboratory order entry and results reporting.  The ability to integrate onsite clinical activity with the clinical documentation and activity by outside providers is a major advancement in functionality."

One big factor in improving care (and reducing costs) by the use of on-site services has been the ability to integrate all the providers, even those off site, with the record.  This new tool seems to have the potential to significantly improve upon the flow of data and information.  To review the full press release, click here.

In related industry news, human capital giants, Watson Wyatt and Towers Perrin have eliminated another barrier to their proposed merger when the European Commission approved their merger with limited conditions.  These two companies each provide enormous data (see above re:  Watson Wyatt report) invaluable to the employer managed healthcare industry.
