"All My Sons" is the great Arthur Miller's classic play about guilt, responsibility, and the relationship between fathers and sons in the aftermath of World War II. ALL MY SONS asks: What do you believe in-and how do you go on believing-when the world changes, and the ones who gave you those beliefs have let you down? Winner of the New York Drama Critics Circle Award for Best Play, this masterpiece launched Arthur Miller's career and crowned him one of America's most successful playwrights.

As always, the play will be followed by a gathering at the Village Inn at Columbus and Speedway for food and conversation.

A WONDERFUL, YOUTHFUL, LOVIN', KISSIN' MUSICAL ABOUT SEVEN STOLEN SWEETIES AND THEIR SHOTGUN WEDDINGS! (original print ad - all caps)

Adam, the eldest of seven brothers, goes to town to get a wife. He convinces Milly to marry him that same day. They return to his backwoods home. Only then does she discover he has six brothers - all living in his cabin. Milly sets out to reform the uncouth siblings, who are anxious to get wives of their own. Then, after reading about the Roman capture of the Sabine women, Adam develops an inspired solution to his brothers' loneliness.

An on-line reviewer comments--
"Well, I wanted to show a musical to my critical viewing class but knew it would be difficult since the boys were the most unlikely candidates for liking musicals that I'd ever seen. I chose this because of the outstanding dance sequence and because the DVD had such an excellent "making of" which I showed first. It was wonderful to realize at the end of things that they totally got into it, even confessing that they were predisposed against it when I made my intentions known. They found the action funny, the dancing riveting and found lots to comment on in the growth of the relationship between Adam and Millie. One of my reluctant students even confessed to me that he'd found himself singing "Bless Your Beautiful Hide" in the shower one morning! This is a wonderful film for teens today and has the ability to draw them in. While they are totally aware of the sound stage sets and how "stagey" it looks, they also realize why it was filmed that way and manage to get past it. I showed this film only weeks after Howard Keel had died and was so glad that he had done the documentary, which is outstanding because all of the original cast were available to comment. It was charming to see them and how well they had aged."

And Beyond...
February 10th to March 2nd, 2012

Feb 11Sat From Joseph Keller -- Mark your calendars for lunch at Café a la C'Arte on the grounds of the Tucson Museum of Art, followed by a visit to the new exhibits at the TMA. Give me a call @ 505-6560, 576-4273
Upcoming at the TMA is a three-fold exhibit extravaganza. Highlighted are works of Nicholas Muray as he photographed world famous Mexican artist Frida Kahlo. The other two exhibits are related to Frida Kahlo who was very interested in the folk arts of her homeland and in the traditional dress and textiles of Mexico.
For the price of one, you get three exhibits. Knowing some of you may not be interested in touring all of the exhibits, we will not have a docent for this visit. You can roam through the three exhibits as you heart and/or muse leads you.
We will have a drawing at lunch for two free admission passes to the museum. Senior admission price to the museum is $6.
Parking in the museum parking lot should not be a problem on this date because it is a Saturday, after the lunch rush at the café, and there are no special events scheduled at the museum for that date.
The museum parking lot is accessed from Washington St., on the north side of the museum property.

BTW, if you have not seen the movie FRIDA, this would be a great introduction to the life and works of Frida Kahlo. The movie stars Salma Hayek in the title role and is directed by Julie Taymor.

My helper, Christine, ate here with 10 friends and suggested I add it to our Sunday Dinner OUT list. I trust her taste in food and the prices are modest so come join us for something truly different. We went in December but only two joined me so order salads or subs and eat--or share--a pizza!

I have been told this is the place to go if you really love burgers--and why not? We've been in a rut. Is it pricey? A bit, but only a bit. Again, I asked for suggestions and this is a suggestion.

Unlike so many films "based on a true story," this is an autobiographical film. Director Mike Mills father did come out after his wife's death, and though this is not--and not intended to be--a recreation of the events, truth is at the heart of the film. Christopher Plummer's performance as an older formerly closeted man exploring gay life for the first time is amazing. Ewan McGregor is also fun and easy on the eyes, and the Jack Russel almost steals the picture. You cannot miss this tragi-comedy.
