OUT 'n abOUT This Week
Greetings!

In  little over a week, on the 20th, the Jewish Holiday period of Chanukah begins and goes on for eight days.  Many of us non Jewish folks do not entirely understand too much about this celebration other than the lighting of eight candles and the story about oil lasting eight days.  Next weeks Entertainment Notes will cover the very well known and celebrated Christian holiday, "Christmas", and the very little known "Kwansa".  In the mean time, I hope you enjoy and gain a little knowledge about the eight candles ritual.

Below is an explanation of the ritual:

The Healing Light of Chanukah Found In:
By Ariel Lee | Prayer

Rabbi Malka Drucker (2002) states that the miracle of Chanukah is not just about a little bit of oil lasting eight days. It is about the inner healing light within each of us. Chanukah is a time when we can celebrate this inner healing light as we move toward wellness.

Chanukah is also about the miracle of survival against all odds, about hope, courage and belief in one's ability to overcome seemingly insurmountable obstacles. This is a powerful symbol that can be used for healing and wellness. This imagery can be used to help people believe that they can overcome obstacles to wellness and healing.

Chanukah Candle-Lighting Blessings

First night:

For the blessing of well-being and transformation that flows from this season, we light this candle for the health and wellness of our bodies.

Second night:

For the blessing of well-being and transformation that flows from this season, we light this candle for the health and wellness of our minds.

Third night:

For the blessing of well-being and transformation that flows from this season, we light this candle for the health and wellness of our souls.

Fourth night:

For the blessing of well-being and transformation that flows from this season, we light this candle for the health and wellness of our children.

Fifth night:

For the blessing of well-being and transformation that flows from this season, we light this candle for the health and wellness of our parents.

Sixth night:

For the blessing of well-being and transformation that flows from this season, we light this candle for the health and wellness of our communities.

Seventh night:

For the blessing of well-being and transformation that flows from this season, we light this candle for the restoration of health and wellness to those who are ill, suffering, or grieving.

Eighth night:

For the blessing of well-being and transformation that flows from this season, we light this candle for the health and wellness of our world.

Shamash:

For the blessing of well-being and transformation that flows through the Shekinah, the Source of Healing Wisdom and Inner Light.

Lloyd Chapman
(4/20/1936 - 12/5/2011)

I went to my old Yahoo email box to check on my email file which I kept on Lloyd Chapman.  Lloyd use to keep me supplied with jokes and other email info that he would find or were forwarded to him from friends and relatives -- I have them back to February 2006 up until he became inactive in MSN in May of 2008.

I was also surprised to find a recent email that he sent to me on October 27th, 2011 which I did not know he sent since I haven't looked in that email file in ages - it not being my current active address I use - - it was a Birthday Greeting for me in which he wrote:

Dear Thom,

Many happy returns of your Very Special Day !!

Thought I would let you know that I am now in home Hospice Care - ebd stage emphysema, and no more driving due to the severe macular degeneration. I never hear from any of the old MSN guys, which I hope is still functioning.  If you have a minute let them know what is going on with me.

My best, Lloyd

I am very upset that I did not "r eceive" this greeting sooner.

All too often we have our friends (and family) right on the top of our minds thinking of them daily but not actually being in contact with them -- time goes by all too fast between "visits" and before we know it the things we might have said are too late to say in person as that person has slipped away from us all too suddenly.

In Lloyds memory, I will post a few of his emails in every e-NEWS that  I publish, remembering his charm, wit, smile and love of his family and friends.

RIP Lloyd and may all the MSN love follow you on your journey.

BEST GRANDPA JOKE OF THE YEAR

A small boy was lost at a large shopping mall.

He approached a uniformed policeman and said,

      "I've lost my grandpa."

The cop asked, "What's he like?"

      The little boy replied,

"Jack Daniels and women with big boobies."

Subject: The Caves

Two Indians and a Hillbilly were walking in the woods,
all of a sudden one of the Indians ran up a hill to
the mouth of a small cave.
Wooooo! Wooooo! Wooooo!" he called into the cave and
then he listened
very closely until he heard an answering, "Wooooo!
Wooooo! Wooooo!"
He tore off his clothes and ran into the cave.
The Hillbilly was puzzled and asked the other Indian
what that was all about. Was the other Indian crazy or
what?
No," said the Indian. "It is our custom during mating
season when Indian men see cave, they call 'Wooooo!
Wooooo! Wooooo!' into the opening. If they get an
answer back, it means there is a girl in there waiting
to mate."
Just then they saw another cave. the Indian ran up to
the opening of the cave, stopped, and hollered,
Woooo! Wooooo! Wooooo!"
Immediately, there was an answering "Wooooo!Wooooo!
Wooooo!" from deep inside the cave. He tore off his
clothes and ran into the cave.
The Hillbilly wandered around in the woods alone for a
while, and then he came upon a great big cave. As he
looked in, he was amazed at the size of the huge
opening, he was thinking, "Oh, man! Look at the size
of this cave! It's bigger than those the Indians
found. There must be some really big, fine women in
this cave!"
He stood in front of the opening and hollered with all
his might "Wooooo! Wooooo! Wooooo!" He grinned and
closed his eyes in anticipation, and then he heard the
answering call, "WOOOOOOOOO! WOOOOOOOOO! WOOOOOOOOO!"
With a gleam in his eyes and a smile on his face, he
raced into the cave, tearing off his clothes as he
ran.
The following day, the headline of the local newspaper
read.....
