MSN Weekly Entertainment NotesNovember 14, 2011
OUT 'n abOUT This Week
Greetings!

This past Saturday (the 12th) was our Monthly Pot Luck and Social.  It was well attended, considering all the other weekend activities around town and down town.   I want to take this opportunity to say and extra special thanks to David Quintero, George Gamez and David Hensley (Charter Member #69) for co-hosting this event.  They did a super special job from start to finish.

George provided extra fancy table covers for all the tables as well as special Thanksgiving dinner plates and napkins.  David Hensley very efficiently conducted the program in honor of all LGB Veterans, he called upon all veterans in attendance to give brief a "history" of their service.  Every table had at least one Veteran with interesting stories of their service days.

Toward the end of the evening, there was a special raffle conducted.  The top prize (contributed by the Reveille Chorus) was 2 tickets to their upcoming Holiday program on the 4th of December.  George and David Q. also had some extra special items that were included as alternate prizes in the raffle.  Davis Palmer was winner of one ticket and Sheldon Clair won the 2nd ticket - congrats guys.  Tickets were the usual $1 each or 6 for $5.  $40.00 was collected by the guys and donated to MSN.

This sort of program shows the kind of camaraderie and fellowship that makes MSN the great organization it is.

Thanks much also to all the providers of the excellent food that was bought and served by the members and guests in attendance -- it seems to get better every month!!!   Special thanks also to those that pitched in helping in the kitchen and setting up and cleaning up, we missed our "usual Kitchen Krew Leaders", John Carl and Mike and hope that they are OK (we tried to contact them to see if there was a problem because last we heard they planned to attend.)

Check the calendar of events this week -- it is the beginning of a very BUSY HOLIDAY SEASON for our gang.  There is something for everyone, please plan to help with an event or if you have something coming up that needs to be announced, please contact me by either phone:  505-6672 or email:  msn.communicator@gmail.com.

Thanks much to all that Host; Attend and HELP make all of our events as successful as they are.

Big Hugs,

We have only one free movie in November, but it is a winner.

In 1973, when the Kennedy assassination was still fresh in most memories, a group of gifted screenwriters--including blacklist victim Dalton Trumbo--spun all the conspiracy theories surrounding the event into a coherent whole..and did a much better job of it than Oliver Stone would do decades later.

I have never been a conspiracy theorist about JFK, but as we approach the 50th anniversary of that day in Dallas, I dare you to watch this movie and not believe--at least a little--you are watching truth.

Come and enjoy.

  Looking ahead to our Thanksgiving Picnic this coming Saturday (19th)

-- you should be aware that El Tour de Tucson cycling festival/ride is on the same day as the Thanksgiving picnic.  The route is scheduled to use Silverbell Rd. as a part of the route.  The ride begins @ 7 AM and should be over by the time the picnic begins to gather.  However, there may be greater cycling traffic all weekend.  Just thought you might want to mention this to the guys somewhere along the line.

I wish I had the time and the endurance to at ride at least a part of it.  I am still at the 10 mile point and just have not pushed myself to build the legs up for more.  Maybe I should set a goal to ride in the 30th Tour.  Hmmmm.

Thanksgiving Picnic this Saturday the 19th

Park Sign

For the second year in a row, MSN is hosting a Thanksgiving Picnic. We return to Christopher Columbus Park's Ramada One by the Model Boat Lake, the sight of last month's fall picnic. This is not a Thanksgiving dinner but a real picnic.

Alas, Joseph and Larry who hosted October's picnic are busy, so we need help.

So far, we have sirloin burgers, Hebrew National hot dogs, and Morningstar Farms veggie burgers. We need veggie dogs, buns, drinks, condiments, sides, salads, desserts, table covers, and a couple of gas grills.

PLEASE CONTACT DAVIS AND LET HIM KNOW WHAT YOU CAN DO OR ARE GOING TO BRING FOR THE PICNIC SO WE ARE SURE THAT EVERYTHING IS COVERED.

Our last picnic was a great success so join us again at noon on the Saturday before Thanksgiving, November 19th.

            Please contact Davis at wilcoxgay@gmail.com or leave a message at 325-4754.

MSN Movie Night OUT  Wednesday the 16th

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
            We have one free movie this month at Far Horizons East, and it is a doozie!
            A decade after the first Kennedy Assassination, when that Friday afternoon was the most sharply remembered event of all post-war lives, a group of talented screenwriters, including blacklist victim Dalton Trumbo, took all the conspiracy theories floating about and fashioned them into a coherent whole. It is hard to watch "Executive Action" and remember its all speculation. It seems real.
As the 50th anniversary of that day in Dallas approaches, I invite you to come and see what might have happened, what might even be true. This film puts Oliver Stone's "JFK" to shame.
            "Executive Action" will be shown at the Far Horizons East clubhouse, 7570 E Speedway, at 7PM on Wednesday, November 16. Please contact Davis at wilcoxgay@gmail.com or leave a message at 325-4754 to attend.
They Walk Amoung Us
Fastest Trooper in Montana
They Walk Among Us .. making LAWS!
A Washington DC airport ticket agent offers some examples:
1. I had a New Hampshire Congresswoman ask for an aisle seat so that her hair wouldn't get messed up by being near the window. (On an airplane!)
2. I got a call from a candidate's staffer, who wanted to go to Cape Town.
While I started to explain the length of the flight and the passport infor-mation, she interrupted me with, ''I'm not trying to make you look stupid, but Cape Town is in Massachusetts .." Without trying to make her look stupid, I calmly explained, ''Cape Cod is in Massachusetts, Cape Town is in
Africa ''
Her response - click.
3. A senior Vermont Congressman called, furious about a Florida package we did. I asked what was wrong with the vacation in Orlando.
He said he was expecting an ocean-view room.
I tried to explain that is not possible, since Orlando is in the middle of the state. He replied, 'Don't lie to me, I looked on the map and Florida is a very thin state!'' (OMG)
4. I got a call from a law-
maker's wife who asked, ''Is it possible to see England from Canada ?'' I said, ''No..'' She said, ''But they look so close on the map. (OMG, again!)
5. An aide for a cabinet member once called and asked if he could rent a car in Dallas. When I pulled up the reservation, I noticed he had only a 1-hour layover in Dallas. When I asked him why he wanted to rent a car, he said, ''I heard Dallas was a big airport, and we will need a car to drive between gates to save time.'' (Aghhhh)
6. An Illinois Congresswoman called last week. She needed to know how it was possible that her flight from Detroit left at 8:30 a.m., and got to Chicago at 8:33 a.m. I explained that Michigan was an hour ahead of Illinois but she couldn't under-
stand the concept of time zones. Finally, I told her the plane went fast, and she bought that.
7. A New York lawmaker called and asked, ''Do airlines put your physical description on your bag so they know whose luggage belongs to whom?'' I said, 'No, why do you ask?'
She replied, ''Well, when I checked in with the airline, they put a tag on my luggage that said (FAT), and I'm overweight. I think that's very rude!'' After putting her on hold for a minute, while I looked into it (I was dying laughing), I came back and explained the city code for Fresno, CA is (FAT - Fresno Air Terminal), and the airline was just putting a destination tag on her luggage.
8. A Senator's aide called to inquire about a trip package to Hawaii. After going over all the cost info, she asked, ''Would it be cheaper to fly to California, and then take the train to Hawaii ?''
9. I just got off the phone with a freshman Congressman who asked, "How do I know which plane to get on?'' I asked him what exactly he meant, to which he replied, ''I was told my flight number is 823, but none of these planes have numbers on them.''
10. A lady Senator called and said, ''I need to fly to Pepsi-Cola, Florida . Do I have to get on one of those little computer planes?'' I asked if she meant fly to Pensacola, FL on a commuter plane. She said, ''Yeah, whatever, smarty!''
11. A senior Senator called and had a question about the documents he needed in order to fly to China . After a lengthy discussion about passports, I reminded him that he needed a visa. 'Oh, no I don't.. I've been to China many times and never had to have one of those.'' I double checked and sure enough, his stay required a visa. When I told him this he said, ''Look, I've been to China four times and every time they have accepted my American Express!''
Duh!
12. A New Mexico Congress woman called to make reservations, ''I want to go from Chicago to Rhino, New York.'' I was at a loss for words. Finally, I said, ''Are you sure that's the name of the town?''
''Yes, what flights do you have?'' replied the lady.
After some searching, I came back with, ''I'm sorry, ma'am, I've looked up every airport code in the country and can't find a Rhino anywhere.'
''The lady retorted, ''Oh, don't be silly! Everyone knows where it is. Check your map!''
So I scoured a map of the state of New York and finally offered, ''You don't mean Buffalo, do you?''
The reply?
''Whatever! I knew it was a big animal,' she said.'
Now you know why the Government is in the shape that it's in! Could anyone be this DUMB?
YES, THEY WALK AMONG US, ARE IN POLITICS, AND THEY CONTINUE TO BREED!
Fastest Trooper in Montana
In most of the United States there is a policy of checking on any stalled vehicle on the hightway when temperatures drop to single digits or below.  About 3 AM one very cold morning, Montana State Trooper Allan Nixon #658 responded to a call there was a car off the shoulder of the road outside Great Falls, Montana.  He located the car, stuck in deep snow with the engine still running.
Pulling in behind the car with his emergency lights on, the trooper walked to the driver's door to find an older man passed out behing the wheel with a nearly empty vodka bottle on the seat beside him.  The driver came awake when the trooper tapped on the window.  Seeing the rotating lights in his rearview mirror, and the state trooper standing next to his car, the man panicked.  He jerked the gearshift into 'drive' and hit the gas.
The car's speedometer was showing 20-30-40 and then 50 MPH, but it was still stuck in the snow, wheels spinning.  Trooper Nixon, having a sense of humor, began running in place next to the speeding (but stationary) car. The driver was totally freaked, thinking the trooper was actually keeping up with him.  This goes on for about 30 seconds, then the trooper yelled. "PULL OVER!"
The man nodded, turned his wheel and stopped the engine.  Needless to say, the man from North Dakota was arrested and is probably still shaking his head over the state trooper in Montana who could run 50 miles per hour.
Who says troopers don't have a sense of humor?
