MSN NOVEMBER EVENTS by Davis Palmer

When does the "Holiday" season begin? Each year it gets earlier and earlier.

After a successful Halloween party, we continue with a play on Veterans' Day, our delayed pot luck, a Thanksgiving Picnic in Christopher Columbus Park on November 19th, and a Thanksgiving Dinner and Gathering 5-9:30P on Thanksgiving Day itself.

Make your holidays bright with MSN.

Live Theatre Workshop

The Foreigner Play

Once again, Lee (of Lee and Merlin) has arranged a theater outing to LTW.   The play is "The Foreigner" by Larry Shue at 7: 30PM on Friday, November 11.

What does a shy Englishman in search of rest do when he visits a fishing lodge in Georgia? In Larry Shue's hilarious farce, Charlie Barker, a proof reader by day and a boring husband by night, adopts the persona of a foreigner who doesn't understand English. When others begin to speak freely around him, he not only becomes privy to secrets both dangerous and frivolous, he also discovers an adventurous extrovert within himself.

"I laughed start to finish at one comic surprise after another."

--The New Yorker

"...a constant invitation to relax and laugh at the foolishness of life...

--Village Voice

The play will be followed by a gathering at the Village Inn at Speedway and Columbus.

Please contact Lee at 207-5336 to attend.

Live Theatre Workshop is located at 5317 E Speedway in the same plaza as Colors. Parking is quite limited, so please arrive early.

9th          Butch Jamie             http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SPYf8wNT0Hg

Jamie Klein is an out-of-work butch lesbian actor willing to try almost anything for a role. Femme, Butch, and Male Jamie all make appearances throughout this quirky, gender-bending comedy about struggling for success in Hollywood.

16th       Blackmail Boys       http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wmUEockRV-s

A sweet and sexually explicit love story becomes an exhilarating extortion tale for two boys, Aaron, and Sam, who plot to blackmail a prominent religious figure.

30th        Children of God      http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=5ymc2dkNjJg

Set against the backdrop of a nation grappling with violent homophobic crime and offering a scathing examination of the underlying hatred for gays rampant in Caribbean societies, Bahamian Kareem Mortimer's debut narrative feature tells the stories of three very different individuals: Lena, the conservative, deeply religious wife of a secretly gay firebrand pastor; Romeo, a handsome young black man hiding his sexuality from his close-knit and loving family; and Jonny, the conflicted and creatively-blocked white artist in search of himself. All three head for the spectacularly beautiful and tranquil island of Eleuthera, each with a different reason for escaping current circumstances. Soon, their disparate worlds collide in unexpected and affecting ways. This uncommon portrayal of love, loneliness, tolerance, secrets and self-acceptance takes viewers on a poignant multifaceted journey that is enlightening, courageous, and disquieting all at the same time, and which shocks to the very core with its startling conclusion.

MSN Movie Night OUT

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
            We have one free movie this month at Far Horizons East, and it is a doozie!
            A decade after the first Kennedy Assassination, when that Friday afternoon was the most sharply remembered event of all post-war lives, a group of talented screenwriters, including blacklist victim Dalton Trumbo, took all the conspiracy theories floating about and fashioned them into a coherent whole. It is hard to watch "Executive Action" and remember its all speculation. It seems real.
As the 50th anniversary of that day in Dallas approaches, I invite you to come and see what might have happened, what might even be true. This film puts Oliver Stone's "JFK" to shame.
            "Executive Action" will be shown at the Far Horizons East clubhouse, 7570 E Speedway, at 7PM on Wednesday, November 16. Please contact Davis at [email protected] or leave a message at 325-4754 to attend.
MSN Thanksgiving Picnic
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Park Sign

For the second year in a row, MSN is hosting a Thanksgiving Picnic. We return to Christopher Columbus Park's Ramada One by the Model Boat Lake, the sight of last month's fall picnic. This is not a Thanksgiving dinner but a real picnic.

Alas, Joseph and Larry who hosted October's picnic are busy, so we need help.

So far, we have sirloin burgers, Hebrew National hot dogs, and Morningstar Farms veggie burgers. We need veggie dogs, buns, drinks, condiments, sides, salads, desserts, table covers, and a couple of gas grills.

PLEASE CONTACT DAVIS AND LET HIM KNOW WHAT YOU CAN DO OR ARE GOING TO BRING FOR THE PICNIC SO WE ARE SURE THAT EVERYTHING IS COVERED.

Our last picnic was a great success so join us again at noon on the Saturday before Thanksgiving, November 19th.

            Please contact Davis at [email protected] or leave a message at 325-4754.

MSN Thanksgiving Dinner and Gathering

Thanksgiving table

Once again we return to one of our favorite locations, the Clubhouse at Far Horizons East. From 5-9:30P on Thanksgiving Day, come and share a meal, some games, and maybe a movie with MSN friends.

While the details have not yet been ironed out, this will be a partial pot luck. I guarantee we will have turkey and dressing-even if I have to make it myself-but volunteers are welcomed. I'm having a very busy month! Bring you favorite Thanksgiving sides and share your holiday with MSN.

           Once again, PLEASE CONTACT DAVIS AND LET HIM KNOW WHAT YOU CAN DO OR ARE GOING TO BRING FOR THE DINER SO WE ARE SURE THAT EVERYTHING IS COVERED.

            Please contact Davis at [email protected] or leave a message at 325-4754.
