Upcoming October 2011 Events
Greetings!

I know autumn is already here, but now you can see the first signs-displays of Jack-O-Lanterns and costumes hiding the Christmas cards. Extra early Christmas tree displays, where the howls of ghosts and the cackle of witches are drowned out by endlessly repeating Christmas carols.

You might even see some fall colors...or Photoshop some in!

Yes, friends, autumn is here, and we have lots of activities for you so come join your friends at MSN for some great times!

Sincerely,

Davis Palmer, Editor

Monthly Pot Luck and Social

The month begins-literally-with the October pot luck at Casas Adobes Church on October 1st. Remember to turn your September page early so you don't get caught unprepared..

Thom, Frank F. and David M. will co-host a fun evening of delicious dining with the best food in town prepared by the best chef's in town -you- followed by an excellent choice of your favorite desserts.

This month we will follow our social time with free Bingo, so come and join the fun.

Pot luck night is, as always, the best time to get a copy of the monthly calendar.  We do ask for voluntary donations to help cover the hall rent, beverages, plates, cups, napkins, and utensils. ($2 min. per person recommended)

If you need information or directions, please contact Lee and Merlin at 207-5336 or leave a message for Davis at 325-4754 or by email at  wilcoxgay@gmail.com

Annual Fall Picnic

FALL IS HERE!  Hurricane season is nearly over, monsoon season is over, tornado season is over and daytime highs are cooler.

Park Sign

That means it is time to come out for an MSN Fall Picnic!

Mark your calendars, plan your offerings, and head to Columbus Park on Saturday, October 8 from NOON on. We have the ramada for the whole day.

Potluck picnic fare will be the order of the day. Put together your favorite dish, homemade or someone else made, and join the MSN guys and indulge, visit, enjoy the fall weather.

We have site #1 reserved for us. This is a better site than last spring because it is next to the bathrooms, has better parking, has three tables, and is on the model boat lake.

Hamburger patties, veggie patties, all beef hotdogs and veggie hotdogs will be provided, but help is needed with the items listed below.

We will need a few to commit to bringing specific things so that we have enough goodies.  If one steps up for each thing, then no one should be burdened.  Also, these are all good items for those of you who do not cook and will be a great contribution.

Napkins, paper/plastic plates, plastic cups--DAVIS

Plastic forks, knives, spoons--DAVIS

Plastic table covers (3)--

Hamburger buns (figure enough for at least 30 hamburgers)--

Hot dogs buns (figure enough for at least 25 hotdogs)--

Mustard, mayonnaise, catsup, salt/pepper, hotdog relish--

Lettuce, tomato, onion (sliced and separated into rings for hamburgers), onion (diced to sprinkle on hotdogs)--

Chips-potato, corn, tortilla, etc.--

Soda's / beverages--THOM = 4/12pks

Ice--THOM = 1 Bag

Please, let Joseph know which of these you want to bring so that we do not have unnecessary doubling up (or none).

Contact Joseph via email at joskelx2@gmail.com  or via telephone at 520.505.6560; cell phone at 520.576.4273.

Pride in the Desert

Saturday, October 15th marks the return of this annual event.

Formerly held at Reid Park, it has moved to Kino Veterans Memorial Stadium at the Kino Sports Complex, 2500 E Ajo Way. This event runs from 11AM to 8PM.

This is not an MSN event, but we urge you to attend.

Pride in the Desert is an all-day festival held at the new venue Kino Memorial Stadium that attracts more than 6,500 participants each year. Highlights of the festival are local, regional, and national entertainers performing live on our main stage as well as several smaller stages and dance areas featuring drag shows and other live entertainment. In addition to the multitude of entertainment venues, Pride in the Desert features commercial and non-profit exhibitors, a food court, and interactive displays and activities. Every year, our event grows to accommodate an ever-expanding number of vendors, exhibitors, and entertainers. Tickets are $10 in person ($11 online) in advance, $15 at the door.

Monday Night Movies

NEW -- Monday Night Movies.

We have lost our Tuesday evening slot at Far Horizons East Clubhouse, but that doesn't mean the free movies have vanished.

We have scheduled these movies not to interfere with other club activities.

Our first film-which I've been trying to show for two years-is the 2008 BBC remake of the thriller "The 39 Steps." Shot in color in Britain, it is as beautiful as it is thrilling, bright where Hitchcock's version was dark, with a handsome blonde hero and fun for all.

I wanted to do something scary as Halloween approached. What could be more frightening than Casey Affleck? Don't laugh-because he seems such an unlikely murderer, Ben's little brother will catch you off guard in this 2010 version of Jim Thompson's "The Killer Inside Me." It may not be typical Halloween fare, but it is full of surprises and scares.

Annual Halloween Party

It falls of a Monday this year.  Start your week off with fun and friendship,  join us on Halloween Night (the 31st) for food, fun, and maybe a movie. Once again, we return to the Far Horizons East Clubhouse. Come in costume (or not) and join MSN for a memorable social gathering.

If the details seem fuzzy, they are, but the place is ours from 6-9:30 PM, so mark the day (we will get more information out on this event as it gets closer.)
