Monthly Pot Luck

Start this month of joy with our holiday pot luck. We will have a guest speaker, writer Marc Adams, and lots of goodies. Bring a dish to share and join us on Saturday, December 4th at 7P at the Casas Adobes Congregational Church.

Marc Adams
(Some of the "Old Timers" may recall Marc from a Pot Luck visit back in 1998 or 1999.   For Marc's biography visit:  Marc Adams' Bio )

Tuesday Night Movies

We have three movies in December. The first movie of the month is

Ken Burns' PBS special "Lewis and Clark" (1997) on December 7. This is a prelude to our museum tour the following Saturday, December 11 (see below for museum tour info), to be detailed further on.

Joseph and Larry will host this film in their home at 7P. Please call 505-6560 to attend.

The first theater movie of the month is "The Ice Storm" (1997)

on December 14.

In the weekend after thanksgiving 1973 the Hoods are skidding out of control. Benjamin Hood reels from drink to drink, trying not to think about his trouble at the office. His wife, Elena, is reading self help books and losing patience with her husband's lies. Their son, Paul, home for the holidays, escapes to the city to pursue an alluring rich girl from his prep school. And young, budding nymphomaniac, Wendy Hood roams the neighborhood, innocently exploring liquor cabinets and lingerie drawers of her friends' parents, looking for something new. Then an ice storm hits, the worst in a century. Things get bad...

The adults include Kevin Kline and Sigourney Weaver. Among the kids are Tobey Maguire, Christina Ricci, and Elijah Wood. Nostalgic, depressing, enchanting, and visually stunning, this is a film you will not soon forget.

Joseph and Larry will host this film in their home at 7P. Please call 505-6560 to attend.

The final movie of the year is on December 28, a Christmas movie originally released in June of 1984. I loved this film so much I paid to see it twice and bought it twice.

Miniature green monsters tear through the small town of Kingston Falls. Mild mannered (and cute) young bank teller Billy Peltzer releases these hideous loonies after gaining a new pet and violating two of three simple rules. The result is hilarious mayhem and destruction in a town straight out of Norman Rockwell. Chris Columbus wrote and Joe Dante directed this, the best Disney movie Disney never made. As deliberately artificial as it is real, this charming piece of Americana is not to be missed.

Joseph and Larry will host this film in their home at 7P. Please call 505-6560 to attend.
