This just in from the Bears (BOTOP)

Howdy folks!

It's May, can you believe it? It seems like only yesterday we were ringing in the new year and then celebrating with our brothers at Fiesta!

But spring is here and this week we'll be in the 90's for the first time this year (the latest that's happened in decades) and with that warmer weather comes even more opportunities for socializing in the Arizona sun.

Speaking of social events - After over two years at Raging Sage we've outgrown the space and are moving to a new venue for Bear Coffee starting this Wednesday, May 5th we'll be holding Bear Coffee at SKYBAR at 536 N. 4th Ave!

SKYBAR operates as a caf by day and a bar by night with the full menu from their sister establishment, Brooklyn Pizza available next door! $1.50 latte's and $1.00 coffees and teas are available day and night in their large and friendly space. Look for the guys either on the patio to the north or in the sofa's near the pool tables and we'll see you there! Questions? Give Member At Large Rick Martin a ring at: 520-668-4538 or drop him a line at: cacowboy90@hotmail. com

Here's the details!

Wednesday, May 5
7:00pm, Bear Coffee at Sky Bar: 7pm - 9pm
536 N. 4th Ave, Tucson, AZ 85705 (map)

Join us for great java and warm guys. It's a great way to meet and socialize with your local bears! Everyone is welcome! We'll meet at Sky Bar - a great venue on 4th Avenue just north of downtown (adjacent to Brooklyn Pizza). Sky Bar features tasty and cheap coffee, and the full Brooklyn Pizza menu, all in an astronomy themed setting. Look for the Bears on either the patio to the north of the building or along the sofas and we'll see you there! Questions? Contact President Kevin Jackson at: 520-904-4714 or sonoranbear@ gmail.com

      . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .

Thanks in advance folks and we'll see you out and about!

*HUGS & TUGS*

You Can Turn Back The Clock

In a' recent Parade magazine, Diane Haler wrote an article about turning back the clock and slashed some basic life changes that can trim a decade or more from our biological age. Most of us would enjoy that opportunity. Some of the changes are as follows:

-*- Overcoming loneliness by being positive and reaching out is one suggestion.

-*- Quit smoking; keep tabs on blood pressure; exercise; watch your weight. The strongest aging people walked faster and were more independent.

-*- Mental workouts such as crossword puzzles can strengthen cognitive muscles. Those who walked regularly were less likely to report memory loss.

-*- Take appropriate vitamins.

-*- Protect yourself from infectious illnesses. Get vaccinations against flu and pneumonia. Get prompt  treatment.

-*- Stay active and engagedin 'the world. Thehappiest and healthiest seniors are those who stay young at heart. Look around you.

-*- Eat well---eat fish and bright colored fruits and vegetables, whole grain breads and pastas; dry roasted nuts, beans and brown rice.

-*- Avoid over exposure to the sun.

-*- Nothing adds more years to our lives or more joy to our years than other people. These ties keep us forever young.

During recent readings about cancer survival, more good reminders of how to be healthy and to live long appeared.   Bernie S. Siegel, M.D. has written a number of books about self-healing.   He states that those who have learned to take on the challenge of their illness and share responsibility for their treatment have chosen the path that leads to peace of mind and healing on a spiritual level.   This profoundly affects their ability to be cured physically as the energy formerly involved in conflict is set free, and the body's immune system receives a dramatic "live" message.   Siegel's primary message is NOT to turn one's back on the medical profession, but to supplement the profession by using self-healing.   He points out that love, hope, joy and peace of mind have physiological consequences, just as depression and despair do.   He emphasizes a science of mind-body communications. When he deals with the exceptional people who use selfhealing, he is interested in how they embrace life, not how they avoid death.   Individuals who change their lives in response to their illnesses can exceed expectations or achieve results doctors consider miraculous. What is your plan for turning back your clock on your aging process?   May you find the love, hope, joy and peace of mind that makes the difference in our lives to keep us healthy and young at least at heart.

Until next time,
