THANKSGIVING PICNIC IN THE PARK
This annual Thanksgiving picnic has been hosted by friends for years. This is a family affair, a mix of friendly, liberal people, and we have been invited to join.
MSN will furnish a turkey as an organization. There will be at least two. We have never run out of food.
Each participant or couple is asked to bring a side dish to share and their own plates, cups, tools, and beverage.
The picnic begins at 1 pm Thanksgiving Day at Ramada 22 in Reid Park. It has been reserved for months. Ramada 22 is a large shelter with adequate parking and a washroom nearby.
To reach Ramada 22, take Country Club north from 22nd Street and take the second entrance to Reid Park. Turn left, go to the upper lot, and park near the washroom. Ramada 22, clearly marked, is the northern most shelter.
Please call Davis at 325-4754 or email him at wilcoxgay@gmail.com to find out what to bring, such as a salad, vegetable, or dessert. Please put "Thanksgiving Picnic" in the subject line. This is a pot luck with a menu! I have attended the past five years and always enjoyed it.
I hope to see many of you there. Let's have a good turnout and make this an annual tradition!
NOTE: We are publishing notice of this event well in advance in order to give all our members enough time to decide what their Thanksgiving plans will be AND if it is to join us in the park for this picnic, PLENTY OF TIME TO MAKE YOUR RESERVATION WITH DAVIS. He will need to know how many will attend with you (i.e. partner or friend(s)).
This is a mixed gender event so all are welcome

Introducing myself to the group
(Note: Back in July of this year, we started receiving communications from a couple that are moving here from Guadalajara in the very near future - the communications mainly have been on our Yahoo communications group site: www.groups.yahoo.com/group/menssocialnetwork2/
many have communicated directly with them. Feel free to communicate with them and give them a warm M.S.N. Tucson Welcome)
Greetings,
My partner (and I) are retired and currently live in Guadalajara, Jalisco, Mexico. We have lived in Mexico for the past nine years; the past five in Guadalajara.
I am a retired library media specialist and my partner retired from corporate sales. We have been together for over 21 years and have gone through three house renovations, a move to another country, and the construction of one house in Mexico and its subsequent sale. So the odds are pretty good that we are permanently, wonderfully stuck with one another!
We are considering relocating to Tucson within the next few months. We have a couple of friends who live there. We have visited several times and have put it in the number one spot of possible places for our relocation.
One friend in Oklahoma says she does not know why we would want to leave 'paradise'. Not all is 'paradisical' anywhere. But next year I will be eligible for my Medicare coverage and would like to opt for the plan available via AARP. Medicare is no good in Mexico and I do not qualify for the Mexican national health care plan.
Also, the situation of real estate looks to be developing such that it will likely be a good opportunity for us to buy in the States again.
More than enough for now. Hope to get to know some of you via the web and perhaps soon in person.
Have a great day. Joseph

YOU GUYS ARE GREAT!
Greetings,
We have had a wonderful response from several of you guys of MSN following my introductory note. We have received private messages that make us even more anxious to come to Tucson and check out the area.
We have visited the area several times but as tourists and VFR. (Sorry, that is travel agent-eze I picked up. It means Visiting Friends and Relatives.) This trip we will be staying with a friend who will be showing us the metro area with the intent of seeing possible places to live. One looks at things entirely differently when seeing it as a relocation.
I am making a list of things/places we must do/see. Otherwise, we will miss something important. But, we bought tickets yesterday for our flight to Hermosillo. We will fly there 05AUG, then take the Tufesa first class bus to Tucson. Our friend will pick us up at the terminal.
Will see you soon. Have a great day. Joseph --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Temporary cell phone service
Greetings,
When we are visiting Tucson, we would like to have cell service. Since we do not live in the States, we have no U. S. cell phone plan, etc. In Guadalajara, one buys a prepaid card, dials a company computer number, inputs a code number from the prepaid card when prompted and the computer system activates the time for your cell phone number. (Of course one can have a plan, we just have never bothered since the cell phone is an convenience, not a necessity.)
Many folks who come to visit GDL bring their cell phone with them, buy a SIM card for a hundred pesos, replace the SIM card in their phone with the local one. This gives them a local number while they are here. Usually the sales folk make the call to TELCEL to get the number activated for you. When the number is activated in the computer system, one can then add time to the number using the process for a prepaid time card, mentioned above.
Now the question. Can I buy a SIM card for my phone in Tucson, prepay time and have a local number while I am there for two week? I have tried finding this information via Google, to no avail. T-mobile and Click want me to buy a new phone to get the prepaid time. I already have three cell phones that are relatively new, with features I will never use. It would be a waste of money to buy another phone.
Suggestions welcome.
Have a great day. Joseph ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Moving up the date
Hi Guys,
We are looking into moving forward our moving date to Tucson from Guadalajara. We have been in contact with a moving company here in Guadalajara and found an acceptable price for moving our stuff to Tucson.
We are aiming for a (tentative) delivery date of December 1, for our goods. We have not settled on a place yet but that will work itself out. There are many options and we will likely have to make another trip to Tucson to finalize a year lease on a place. NOTE: We are very open to suggestions. Remember that we do have a third member in our family--Chadwick, who is a ten-year-old Whippet. So dogs being acceptable is a must.
Will keep you advised as progress is made.
HAVE A GREAT DAY. JOSEPH

Home sweet home found
We have found a house to lease!!! When visiting Tucson, our hostess introduced us to a friend who just happened to be in the process of finishing the renovation on one of his properties. We contacted him and it is still available, so we will shortly be signing the lease.
We will be near Trader Joe's on Grant (four blocks south and one block west of Swan) in the Marven Garden area. It is a three bdrm/1.5 bath house with new central AC, new huge refri with icemaker, walled yard, two storage sheds, Arizona room. It is about 1200 sf. So it will do fine for the three of us.
We are looking forward to getting our stuff delivered the first of December, or as close to that as the movers can do.
Will keep you posted as the adventure goes on.
HAVE A GREAT DAY. JOSEPH

Symphony and theatre attire
HI, We are looking forward to performances by the symphony in Tucson, after we get moved 01DEC.
What is appropriate attire for the performances? In Guadalajara, there are almost always two performances. One is Friday evening and the other is at 12:30 PM on Sunday. We usually attend the Sunday performances because traffic and parking is so much lighter. Sunday performances are also less 'dressy'. We usually just wear Docker type pants and a long sleeved shirt, sans tie or jacket. I have frequently seen others in jeans.
I suspect performances are a bit more dress-up for Tucson. Advice, experiences, etc.? Time to get my ties out of storage?
TIA HAVE A GREAT DAY. JOSEPH

Re: [Men's Social Network - Open Forum] Symphony and theatre attire
Hi Jos,
It's pretty much like everywhere else these days, some people dress up, others don't. Tucson is very casual in general.
I wore a tie the other weekend at a happy hour event in an upscale restaurant for a change and I was the only one, ditto for my last two trips to live theater, at least I got favorable comments on my choice of tie :-)

Re: [Men's Social Network - Open Forum] Symphony and theatre attire
Here's my two cent's worth: I think that neckties are an oppressive, uncomfortable, distracting, anti-male garment and refuse to wear them at all. As an alternative, when I feel pressured to be "dressy" I wear a polo shirt buttoned all the way up with a sport coat. I've even seen men interviewed on TV with this outfit, and I, myself, even successfully testified at U.S. Congress so dressed. More recently, for a wedding, I managed to locate "banded-collar" shirts, which are dress shirts sans the two collar "points" and are not worn with a tie. I got mine at JC Penney as well as the San Francisco Rag Company men's clothing store at the Tucson Mall. But I normally opt for "business casual" (polo shirt and slacks).

Editors Comment: "YOU GUYS ARE GREAT" kind of says it all about our M.S.N. "family."
Looks like this couple is well on their way to a warm welcome from our "family". This is as it should be for all of our present, future and former "family" members, however, just as in a normal biological or adoptive family -- we all usually seek the "friendship" of our siblings and of course it goes without saying some days are not quite as "friendly" as others!!! BUT if each person puts a friendly effort forward it hopefully will receive a friendly response!! Don't pre-judge anyone until you have walked in their shoes!!
Big Hugs to all,
Thom

Hate crimes bill passed
This just in from H.R.C. (Human Rights Campaign)
Dear Thomas,
I have some amazing news: after a Senate vote today, the inclusive hate crimes bill has crossed its last hurdle in Congress! President Obama has vowed to sign it by the end of this month.
Today's victory marks a truly pivotal moment in our fight for LGBT equality. It happened because of the dedication of people like you and the families of Matthew Shepard and James Byrd, Jr., for whom the bill is named.
And with bills seeking to end workplace and military discrimination coming up for debate in Congress, today's victory could be just the first of many if we can keep up our momentum.
Check out our Love Conquers Hate site - celebrate this victory and send a note of thanks to the Shepard and Byrd families for their years of hard work!
Courageous lawmakers are continuing to hear from right-wing groups falsely claiming their vote will end free speech, criminalize anti-gay thoughts, and open the door to jailing pastors for their sermons.
One recent right-wing article said passing this bill would "shred America's Judeo-Christian value system."
That's what we're up against.
It's clear that we can't afford to sit back and hope for the best.
But we've proved today that if we continue to fight with the passion and persistence that paved the way for today's hate crimes victory - we can fulfill the promise of this moment, despite our anti-equality opposition.
I hope you'll take one moment today to celebrate this turning point and send your message of support for the families whose dedication helped pass this law: http://www.LoveConquersHate.org
Thank you again for everything you've done to help make this possible.
Warmly,
Joe Solmonese President
