-- MONTHLY THANK YOU'S --

To OUR volunteer Event Hosts for the month; to OUR Kitchen Krew; to our Pot Luck Set up/Clean up Krew; to OUR fine Chef's and food providers for OUR monthly Pot Lucks; to OUR Entertainers; to OUR Communications Team; to OUR Steering Committee members and to ANYONE that has volunteered or continues to volunteer - PAST; PRESENT or FUTURE -- THE SPECIAL FEW amoungst the many -- YOU know who YOU are, (we won't list names for fear of accidentally missing a Special Person, possibly YOU!!!)

A BIG ROUND OF APPLAUSE TO ALL OF OUR VOLUNTEERS.

Where would we be without volunteers -- who quickly respond when a need appears? This is the way you have chosen to serve - what appreciation you deserve!
There are very many things to do - and YOUR time can only be given by YOU!  So without complaint and without demands - YOU offer the labor of YOUR hands.  The world is a better place to live - when people like YOU are so willing to give.
With this attitude of love and of care - YOU will find a welcome anywhere.  YOU may not always know when someone is especially blessed by a kindness YOU've done.
As YOU freely share YOUR hours and days, may YOU also be blessed in many ways!

TAKE THE TIME TO THANK SOMEONE THAT IS DOING SOMETHING FOR YOU
AND CONSIDER POSSIBLY VOLUNTEERING
TO DO SOMETHING FOR SOMEONE!!!
Busy Season Ahead

Greetings!

Vacations and summer "home" visits are about over for this year.

It won't be long before our winter visitor friends return to us for their annual visit to their extended Arizona Family.

The holidays will be hitting us up before we know it.

The switch from air conditioning to heater is not far off.

Why not make an early resolution to get involved by volunteering to help your M.S.N. "grow".

We still have positions open on the Steering Committee if anyone is interested in helping at that level.

We always need help on our Kitchen Krew and Setup/Cleanup Krew for the Monthly Pot Luck.

Have an event or something you would like to host, either as a one time event or as a regular weekly or monthly event??

Care to join the Communications Team?

Don't be afraid to volunteer, it is easy, doesn't hurt and it makes one feel good.

Email me and share your ideas with me.  I'll treat to Lunch or Dinner if you have a workable plan, suggestion or idea that needs discussion.

Thanks much,

Thom Goodrich

 Fall Fun Almost Here!

Join Wingspan for Fall fun with Two Weeks of FUNd Raising, the Pride Parade and Block Party in front of Wingspan, Pride in the Desert and After Parties. Two Weeks of FUNd Raising
It's just that: Two weeks of having fun and supporting Wingspan.

The parties begin September 26, the date of our former Annual Dinner, and continue to the Tucson Pride Parade and Block Party in front of Winspan on October 9 and Pride in the Desert on October 10.

For these two weeks, we ask that you join friends, family, colleagues, acquaintances and friends-to-be in hosting and attending events to celebrate our LGBT community and to raise money for Wingspan.
And do it with pizzazz!  Make your gathering as small or as big as you want.  Go out to lunch with coworkers and ask each person to give five bucks to Wingspan. Get friends to join you for dinner at one of Tucson's finer eateries and have each person leave an extra tip for Wingspan.  Host a fabulous party at your home and ask your party guests to come with a check made out to Wingspan.  March in the Parade. Dance at the Block Party. Hang out in Reid Park. Dance some more at The Biz. Or have your own party.

Lots of events are happening beginning Septempber 26 (see WINGSPAN EVENTS Calendar). Click here

October 9 brings Tucson's annual Pride Parade and Block Party in front of Wingspan (6:00pm - 9:00pm). Join Margaret Cho and the parade down 4th Avenue then head to Wingspan for live music, food, games, stuff, and more stuff. And volunteer with Wingspan to make it happen.

October 10 is the day to play in the park. Stop by the Wingspan booth at Tucson Pride in the Desert at Reid Park from 10:00am to 8:00pm. Volunteer to work at park Pride event andget a double bonus - you get in free and Wingspan gets $32.00 or more for your hours worked (mention Wingspan when you volunteer with Tucson Pride).
The Biz will host parties after the park event until 6:00am. Yes, you can play all night.
March. Dance. Play.

Together we are Wingspan.

Pride in the Desert is an all-day festival held at Reid Park that attracts more than 6,500 participants each year. Highlights of the festival are local, regional, and national entertainers performing live on our main stage as well as several smaller stages and dance areas featuring drag shows and other live entertainment. In addition to the multitude of entertainment venues, Pride in the Desert features commercial and non-profit exhibitors, a food court, and interactive displays and activities. Every year, the event grows to accommodate an ever-expanding number of vendors, exhibitors, and entertainers.  Adult tickets are $13.00 each. available for purchase on line in advance.

Volunteer Opportunities
We are always looking for great, dedicated volunteers. Because of the size of our events, many volunteers are needed. Tucson Pride has developed Volunteer Dollars, a program in which volunteers are "paid" and the "paycheck" goes to the non-profit organization of their choice. Since 2000 when the program was instated, more than $30,000 has been given back to the community through this program. Some of the recipients of these gifts have been: the Southern Arizona AIDS Foundation (SAAF), Wingspan, Tucson Interfaith HIV/AIDS Network (TIHAN), Southern Arizona Gender Alliance (SAGA), the Humane Society, the Susan G. Komen Foundation, Desert Voices, the Red Cross, Community Food Bank and Planned Parenthood.

at The University of ArizonaŽ Campus

Mark your calendars for October 11th as Tucson celebrates our 21st Annual AIDSWALK benefiting programs and services of the Southern Arizona AIDS Foundation (SAAF). AIDSWALK features a 5K walk, 10K fun run, great food, entertainment, community education, kid and pet friendly play areas, a beautiful quilt opening ceremony with quilt panels on display from the Names Project Foundation, and much more.

This year's message, I walk because, allows people to share their story. I walk because...every 9˝ minutes someone is infected with HIV. I walk because...approximately 2 young Americans under the age of 24 become infected with HIV every hour of every day. I walk because...everyone has an HIV status. I walk because...

My participation in AIDSWALK means I will be joining thousands of friends, families, and community members to walk in support of those living with or affected by HIV/AIDS or in memory of loved ones lost to HIV/AIDS.

AIDSWALK benefits the programs and services of the Southern Arizona AIDS Foundation (SAAF).

This year it is more important than ever to help out if you can. As a client a SAAF I have lost my dental program and naturopathic care due to funding issues. Along with this our drug assistance program has been drastically cut back including meds to help with my pain/nerve conditions.

If you can help it would be greatly appreciated.

Many thanks for your support and please forward this to anyone who you think might want to donate!

Best wishes and thanks Curt

The second speaker, is Doug Neuman, an attorney specializing in  Estate planning, Wills and Trusts, Tax planning, and Domestic Partner Agreements.  He also teaches at the Univ. of AZ, and has a busy long term practice.

Both men will speak about 10-15 minutes after our pot luck dinner.  They will then be around to answer any questions that you may have.
