| January 2012: Message from the CEO |

Samira K. Beckwith
President and CEO
|
Giving Hope to the families in our care means giving them peace of mind.
One very important way we do this is by offering Five Wishes, a booklet that can help each person plan for future healthcare needs. When completed, we encourage everyone to discuss their wishes with family members. This simple process will be a true gift of love for your family in the event you become unable to speak for yourself.
As we begin the New Year, we are launching a very exciting community project: "50,000 Wishes for Hope." Our goal is to distribute 10,000 copies of the Five Wishes booklet. 50,000 Wishes is a way of giving Hope to our community.
We want to ensure that you, the Hope volunteers and your family members are among those who receive a copy of the booklet. To request copies of Five Wishes, go to www.hopehcs.org/fivewishes, or call your volunteer specialist.
Please join us in this campaign of hope and love by declaring your Five Wishes and encouraging your friends and family to do the same.
Thank you for all that you do.

| Infection Control | |
Tuberculosis (TB) is caused by germs that are spread from person to person through the air. TB usually affects the lungs. A person with TB can die if they do not get treatment.
Symptoms include feelings of sickness or weakness, weight loss, fever, and night sweats. Other symptoms include coughing, chest pain, and the coughing up of blood.
People with TB disease are most likely to spread the germs to people they spend time with every day, such as family members or coworkers.
A positive test for TB infection only tells that a person has been infected with TB germs. It does not tell whether or not the person has progressed to TB disease. Other tests, such as a chest x-ray and a sample of sputum, are needed to see whether the person has TB disease.
TB disease can be treated by taking several drugs for 6 to 12 months. It is very important that people who have TB disease finish the medicine, and take the drugs exactly as prescribed. If they stop taking the drugs too soon, they can become sick again.
