| November 2011: Message from the CEO |
 | |
Samira K. Beckwith
President and CEO
|
As we observe National Hospice Month in November, we want you to know how much we appreciate the support of the Hope volunteers. Every day, you make a difference in the lives of others. You are vital in helping us to achieve our mission - by sharing your time and talents, and helping to increase awareness about Hope's services.
A medical study in 2010 found that patients in hospice care at the end of life were more comfortable, and lived an average of two months longer. That is why it is so important to share Hope with the people in our community.
Hospice, like every one of Hope's programs of care, is about love and caring when people need it most.
We are grateful to you for being a part of this important work and calling. You are helping us to share Hope with others.
Thank you for all that you do.

Donate to Ride 4 Hope in Memory of Sophie
| From Hope Volunteer Bill Curtis:
On September 30, 2011, my beautiful Maine Coon cat, Sophie, passed away. Sophie had been a Hope Hospice pet therapy kitty for 8 years. During that time, she brought a measure of comfort to hundreds of people.
On November 20, 2011, I'll be riding in the Fourth Annual Ride 4 Hope to benefit Hope Hospice, and I'll be riding in honor of my sweet Sophie. I will love and miss her forever.
If you would like to participate as a sponsor, donor or rider, please contact Heather Chester at 489-9164 or Heather.Chester@hopehcs.org.
You can also make a memorial contribution in Sophie's name to the Gulf Coast Humane Society.

Tips and Reminders

 Check In with Your Specialists
Please check in with your volunteer specialist if you are returning to Florida for the season and let them know when you will be available to volunteer.
Hepatitis B Forms
Return your Hepatitis B vaccination forms to your volunteer specialist. This form is required to be in your confidential records.
Flu Shots are Available
Flu season is as regular as fall and winter, but a lot less fun. So as we head into flu season, it's time to get protected against the flu, by getting vaccinated - even if you got vaccinated last year.
It takes about two weeks after vaccination for your body to develop an immune response. It pays to get vaccinated now so that you will be protected.
Hope provides free shots for volunteers, and we will have evening and Saturday hours to provide extra opportunities to conveniently get your annual flu shot. Please contact your Volunteer Specialist to set up an appointment during the day or at these extra times:

Bonita Springs

Help from Hope Chest
|
Hope volunteer Victoria Madaras heard that Hope team member Tricia McCleaf was traveling to a location near Zimbabwe.
Victoria encouraged her to stop at a village to provide much-needed clothing. The need was so great there, that little boys were wearing dresses. Tricia delivered 50 pounds of clothing donated by Hope Chest Resale Store.
