| April 2011: Message from the CEO | |

A small group of compassionate volunteers gave Hope its beginning by providing comfort and care for a few people at the end of life. Today, more than 1,200 volunteers remain the heart of Hope by supporting eight programs in nine counties.
Volunteers help us to achieve our mission of providing exceptional care for individuals and their families everyday. Volunteers make a difference in the lives of others by providing many services such as running errands, transporting medicine and supplies, giving a caregiver a much-needed break, or simply sitting with a patient who wants company.
In April, we have planned special gatherings in celebration of National Volunteer Appreciation Month. I hope you will join us at the celebrations. On behalf of the families in our care and the staff of Hope, "thank you" to each of you for sharing your time and talents with us.
Thank you for all that you do.
Warm Regards, Samira K. Beckwith President and CEO |

| Volunteer Spotlight: Dave Peterson | |

Giving Hope
Hope Volunteer Dave Peterson credits his self-professed "gift of gab" to his 31 years in sales. However, it is his innate charm that has Hope families requesting his company.
Dave's devotion to Hope began when his wife was diagnosed with Alzheimer's Disease.
"Hope was instrumental in making my life easier," Dave shared.
When his wife passed away, he wanted to return Hope to others and signed up to volunteer at Hope. Now at the age of 90, Dave's relaxed demeanor, lively stories and caring expressions lift the spirits of everyone he meets. He is officially in-demand, as patients and families ask Dave to visit them more often.
"Volunteering at Hope started as payback. Now I just enjoy it." |

Artists Needed
Hope is launching an expressive art therapy program for individuals in our care and their families in the Hospice Houses. Hope invites you to highlight the importance of advance healthcare decision-making - part of a nationwide effort that has culminated in the formal designation of April 16 as National Healthcare Decisions Day.
Hope provides a useful tool for people to talk comfortably about their end-of-life wishes with family, friends and healthcare provider. By providing the Five Wishes booklet to your family, friends, neighbors and even those in your place of worship, you provide these individuals with the opportunity to make their own end-of-life decisions.
