Message from the CEO
samira beckwithThe scent of freshly-baked cookies, the feel of a handmade quilt and the whirring sound of a sewing machine are tell-tale signs that Hope Volunteers are nearby.  Each day, our volunteers share their talents to provide joy to others.

In this month's Messenger, Hope encourages volunteers to celebrate their talents.  Share a beautiful singing voice in a choir, play an instrument for a sing-along or introduce an affectionate pet to someone in need of comfort.  Even a talent for translation is vital to a family struggling to communicate.

Whether singing, strumming or speaking, no talent is too great or too small. The simple kindness of offering a hand to hold or a warm smile is a talent certainly needed.

Thank you for all that you do - every day.

Warm Regards,

Samira K. Beckwith
Hope President and CEO
Ways to Volunteer
Spanish Interpreters Needed for PIC Program
Hope Partners in Care, which provides supportive counseling and comfort care for seriously ill children, needs volunteers in all areas of Lee, Glades and Hendry counties to accompany the PiC staff to visits with Spanish-speaking families.  Volunteers will serve as Spanish interpreters and need to be fully conversant in Spanish and English.   Knowledge of Spanish medical terms is not necessary.

Locations include patient homes and medical offices by appointment between 8 a.m. and 6 p.m. on week days.  These are one-time volunteer assignments - as needed.  Learn how you can help.  Call Lynnan Grissinger.

choirAudition for Volunteer Choir
Do you have a singing voice?  Consider joining Hope's volunteer choir! For nine years, Music Therapist, Ariel, has led a singing group at Hospice House in Cape Coral. If you would like to join the group, contact Nina Tomasello.   Two spaces are available.  Auditions are required.

Hope PACEŽ Needs Entertainers

The newly opened PACE Care Center at the Lehigh Hospice House is looking for volunteers who can perform musical programs or visit with a pet to entertain participants.  Weekly visits are welcome between 9 a.m. and 2 p.m. on the day of your choice.  Join us in bringing smiles to the faces of our PACE clients with your music or your favorite pet!   Call Lynnan Grissinger for more information.

Administrative Support for Occupational Nurse
Volunteers are needed to assist our Occupational Nurse with phone calls, e-mails and data entry at our Fort Myers, Bonita, Cape, Lehigh and Community Center locations.  There is no patient interface.  Computer skills are required.  All data entry, scheduling and computer work are easy to learn but you must be comfortable working with a lap top.  To help, call Barbara Tvedt.

yarnWANTED/NEEDED
Do you have yarn or material around the house that you'll never use?  Our sewers need these supplies and would appreciate your donation to Hope.  Your yarn will become lap covers and afghans for our patients and the material will be used to make bears, pillows, aprons and more.  Check in your closets and call Barbara Tvedt to donate.
