| Message from the CEO | There are few experiences in modern life that are as meaningful as volunteering. Many of you have told me about the catch in your throat that comes when you tell others about Hope, your service here, and how you are helping others.
We hope that volunteering makes you feel valued, involved and needed. A new study based on a survey of 4,500 Americans confirms that volunteer service can improve a person's physical and emotional health as well as your outlook on life.
Among the findings: - More than 60% of those who volunteered in the past year report that volunteering made them feel physically healthier.
- 89% agree that volunteering improved their sense of well-being.
- 92% said that volunteering enriches their purpose in life.
- Volunteers are significantly more likely to characterize themselves as "optimistic" compared to non-volunteers.
The study also found that volunteering creates deep connections with other people - we see it every day at Hope.
This information should be shared with your friends and loved ones. Let them know that volunteering adds a great deal to a person's life; it is also good for you, for Hope and for the community!
Thank you for all that you do.

"Yesterday I attended a funeral of a friend that we had done the Valor Program
for. On the casket was the veteran bear
we had presented to him. How proud I was
that we had honored him before his death and how pleased I was to see the
family had appreciated the program. Thanks for letting me be a part of it." ~ Keith Tomey, Honor Guard Volunteer
Rainbow Trails Rainbow Trails is a free day program for children and their families who are coping with a life-limiting illness or the recent loss of a loved one.
The first annual bereavement camp for the MidFlorida region was held in Highlands County on June 5 at South Florida Community College. Counselors from Fort Myers and community volunteers (one from as far away as Miami) helped with the camp.
In Lee County, campers attended at Treeline Elementary School on Saturday, June 12. This was the first year the Lee County Camp included parents and children in the Partners in Care (PIC) program. Approximately 70 children and parents attended.
Thanks to all volunteers who helped to make the camp a success!
Additional dates are planned later this year. If you think you would like to volunteer for Rainbow Trails, working with children and their loved ones, please contact your volunteer specialist. Volunteers are needed for recreation, food services, camp counselors, set up/clean up, and registration. Come and help out... you'll have a great deal of fun!
